Hi everyone!
I haven't seen any postings from CSUF EL-MSN Fall 2010 applicants! Are there any of you out there? I received my complete checklist about two weeks ago and was curious if anyone else has heard anything from the school?? Good luck to all of you!!!
Yeah, I've already started to make new plans as well, we've been waiting for a long time. I wonder how Fullerton's re-activation works. I saw a link for it and now that I go back to the website I can't find it anymore! I have NO clue about the two summer classes, maybe someone that was accepted can give us some more information about those courses. Anyways, I was just curious if anyone had any new information that was on the alternate list like us!
I'm still hoping we have a chance! Again, let me know when you hear anything!!
KRomney,
I'm still crossing my fingers for you. I've actually decided on CSULB (I know, shocking) so I hope you'll be able to get in. I'll be so envious of the awesome faculty and sim lab while I'm at csulb! This was such a tough decision, but in the long run, I think csulb is more of logical (even though I'm dreading going there)!
The 2 classes you need: medical calculations & medical terminology.
I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors!
Meems! I can't believe you decided CSULB! What was it that made you decide it
was a better choice?! Thanks for letting us know, when did you tell Fullerton? Also thank you for letting us know what classes are required!
Thanks for the positive energy! Your going to have a great experience at CSULB, and I wish you the best of luck, you have helped me SO much through this process!
Hi Meems,
What did you mean about not wanted to go to CSULB? I have been talking to them about the RN to the FNP program and have found them very helpful and encouraging so far. I do not know much about the program from others, just what I have experienced myself. I think they have alot of options for practioners. The issue with CSUF for me is that it gives you the MSN in education and things and not the practioner education and training. What have you heard about Long Beach? Hopefully it is a good program. They allow me to take a prerequisite as an exam so that is very helpful. Let us know how it goes there. Hope you really like it.

KRomney-
hehe I don't know about the positive experience at csulb (I've heard from MANY people that the program is extremely tortuous), but in the end, my goal is to become a NP so csulb is more practical. I'l be SO jealous of the awesome faculty that CSUF has!
If I decided on CSUF,
RN/generic MSN = 3 years
Work to get experience = 1-2 years
RN --> NP = 2 years (?) while working -- not even a guarantee that I'll get accepted.
= 6-7 years total
-At UCLA you will need 4 total pre-reqs plus your RN license. 2/4 pre-reqs you will NOT be taking at CSUF. I asked the CSUF faculty if I would be able to take those pre-reqs and she said no.
At CSULB,
After 16 months, I'll get a BSN/RN at csulb and I can take a year off & work to get experience then go back for the NP portion while working part time. They'll hold my spot for a year. If I decide that I want 2 years of experience before going back, I have all the necessary pre-reqs to apply to UCLA. If I decided to go to CSUF, if I stopped after 18 months (pre-licensure), I don't get any type of degree.
I'm turning 25 this year and I don't want to be in school until I'm 32, & the fact that there is no guarantee that I'll get accepted into a NP program makes csulb more logical.
Trust me, I've tried reasoning EVERY way possible for me to attend CSUF! I even met with the director of nursing at CSUF to try and figure all of this out, but it looks like I'll need to suck it up.
Phewwwwwwww, sorry this is so long!
Coco-
When comparing CSUF to CSULB, I haven't heard the greatest things about CSULB. In the first year at CSULB, you'll be taking almost 60 units (vs. 40 units at cusf?) so I'm sure it's much more intense. I'm a slow learner so it'll be a different change for me to adjust to such a fast paced learning curriculum.
I had my heart set on CSUF since the beginning of this entire process, but then I started thinking about my age, the pre-reqs that would be missing (if I went to csuf), the BSN, and the years it would take it complete my NP and my perspective started changing.
Hi Meems,
Thanks for all your helpful information. I am going to RCC for the RN portion of the degree and then planning to go to CSULB for the NP and Masters only. I liked this program since it leads directly to the NP and you can start with an RN with a few prerequisites. I believe that the RN/BSN in 16 months would be very torturous. I was already in one of those type of programs and opted out. I knew how it would probably be. I need time to learn also even though I learn things very thoroughly and remember most of what I learned. I will be getting the FNP pretty slowly. It should take at least 2.5 to 3 years part-time as I work. I think it will be okay that way, or at least I hope. I am almost twice your age so it is hard to feel like you are getting older.
Thanks for getting back to everyone and really helping. If you know anything else about the graduate programs at CSULB, let me know.
Take care,
Coco
Hey All!
I too am still waiting on the wait list. I had a friend who is part of the first cohort for the program and she was chosen from the wait list and notified in July. Just try to stay positive. I have yet to hear anything. It does seem the alternate list is more than 15 or a majority of us from the alternate list are posting on here Best of luck to all. I'll be sure to notify of updates.
