CSU Fullerton Fall 2010 applicants?

Published

Hi everyone!

I haven't seen any postings from CSUF EL-MSN Fall 2010 applicants! Are there any of you out there? I received my complete checklist about two weeks ago and was curious if anyone else has heard anything from the school?? Good luck to all of you!!!

I know, I couldn't believe that people were falling asleep! I talked to the nursing department and they said anyone who showed up later than 10am would be dropped from the program. Thanks for the words of encouragement!

LJC714, I feel the same way that you do. I'm really surprised that Fullerton doesn't allow a direct transfer into their NP program. I'm really hoping that it's one of those situations where they will allow a transfer after you're actually in the program, cuz it's the only program I'm accepted to at this point. Otherwise it's going to be tough. Problem with getting MSN-CNL first and then NP cert later is that the certificate part is not at all covered by financial aid...I'm a little frustrated and really don't know what to do at this point. If this policy continues I suspect CSUF is going to see a lot of students who drop at the 18 month mark and reapply to MSN NP programs the following year.

Surely there are past CSUF EL-MSN students who transferred into their CNM/NP programs? Anyone?

I totally agree. I think a lot of students will drop out to enroll in another MSN program or they will continue on with their masters in leadership and have to enroll in a post master's certificate program or another master's degree later on (if they are interested in advance practice nursing). It seems like a waste of time and money to get the MSN-CNL and then have to enroll for another program later.

The person I spoke with said that after completing the RN portion, you could drop out a pursue another MSN, but you would have to apply to that program specifically along with everyone else who is applying to that program (I'm sure it doesn't look too great that you dropped out). She also said that most of the MSN concentrations require a year of experience as an RN in a specific area before one could be considered for the MSN program.

When I suggested that the power-point slideshow indicated that we could choose a concentration, she said that "the slide in the powerpoint does not show our program as a path to choose a concentration, rather it shows that upon completion of the EL-MSN program it is possible to continue on into one of the specialized areas." To get into one of those areas, however, you have to complete additional education, be it a certificate program or another master's. I was hoping that being a graduate from fullerton would help you out during the application process, but she also said that there are no extra points given in these programs to students who have graduated from CSUF.

So for me, it just came down to more bang for my buck. I could do more with CSULB in less time. I truly hope that Fullerton will be able to better assist EL-MSN students in the future and be able to offer them the same opportunities that CSULB does for their EL students. Irregardless, any graduate from either school will become an excellent nurse. I definetly didn't mean to discourage anybody and I'm sorry if I did! I just wanted you all to know what I found out, because I thought the program was different. I wish you the very best!

LJC714 - If it means anything, you did not discourage me at all! This last conversation discusses very important issues and I am thankful that you guys took the time to share all that information with us. It is definitely information we all need to consider before we commit to this life-changing process! I received an interview invite from another school today, an ABSN program, and the thought of possibly getting in that program puts a lot of new perspectives into mind. Anyways, thanks again for sharing all of your information and good luck/congrats on getting into LB!

Also, I can't believe you were the first alternate and it took you this long to hear and it is completely SHOCKING to hear people didn't show and were sleeping at the mandatory orientation session! How could you sleep through something that exciting! Maybe that's just me though!

KRomney-Good luck with whatever decision you make! Congrats on the interview! You should be an interview pro after Fullerton's! I couldn't believe that people were falling asleep either. I was thinking, after all this work with the application process and pre-reqs, why risk getting kicked out for falling asleep?! There was so much information, I didn't even want to leave and use the restroom, never mind sleep! Originally I was alternate 6. I thought it was nice that they let you know up front what your number was. Then when I arrived at the orientation, they handed me a folder that said alternate 1, so I thought it was a mistake at first. I definetly feel very blessed to get in. :)

I was alternate 12 and now I'm 3 for Long Beach, so that's pretty promising! I emailed today to see if I've moved up at all (I'm totally pestering them, but I really don't care). I'll let you guys know what they say, because if I move up, that means everyone on the alternate list moved up. Let's all keep our fingers crossed.

Also, I found out that if we don't get in and have to reapply next year, we can retake the TEAS and they only look at the higher score.

Good luck to everyone! I'm rooting for all us alternates to be accepted! There's still hope people!

I am so jealous you two at least knew what your situation was like at Long Beach! JeanClaire, I think you have a really good chance at getting into Long Beach since people were sleeping and didn't show up to the orientation! I am actually surprised you haven't heard from Fullerton yet since your so close at Long Beach! I am still crossing my fingers, you never know what can happen!

I feel pretty in the dark though with Fullerton, if Long Beach has already gone through 9 alternates and people have been declining CSUF for CSULB it makes me wonder how many alternates Fullerton really took. Why can't they tell us! I called and asked and they said they couldn't give out that information! Anyways, now I am just venting, we still have until August!

Also, I wonder who got LJC714's spot at Fullerton this week and if they are going to accept!

I haven't received an email back saying anything about me declining admission. I'll probably call monday if I don't hear by then and make sure they got my email. Keep your hopes up! You never know what will happen!:)

Oh ok! Well let us know when you hear! :)

I've officially declined admission. There's one spot open! I hope it goes to one of you! Good Luck!

@LJC: When you're talking about the mandatory orientation you went to, are you referring to CSULB or CSUF?

It was at CSULB. I think Fullerton's orientation is in the beginning of August
