Hi everyone!
I haven't seen any postings from CSUF EL-MSN Fall 2010 applicants! Are there any of you out there? I received my complete checklist about two weeks ago and was curious if anyone else has heard anything from the school?? Good luck to all of you!!!
I haven't tried e-mailing the new person in charge of the alternate list. There wasn't a name listed in the e-mail, just the regular nursing e-mail address. I would LOVE to know the alternate list situation though haha! I am hoping the same thing as you, that when things settle after the new person starts people might start hearing things again!
Good luck! Please post if you hear any good news!
I was looking for a thread on CSUF EL-BSN for fall 2010 applicants when I stumbled upon this one. But I'm just posting to give you guys some good news. A friend of mine was on the EL-MSN wait list at CSUF for fall 2010 and just got accepted on the 10th. I thought those of you still on the wait list would appreciate this information. Good luck to all of you!
I am an alternate for CSUF as well. I emailed the new person in charge because I feel like I've been waiting soooo long (It's June 16th!) and this was her response:
"The EL-MSN program is currently full for the Fall 2010 start date. Thank you for checking in. If you do not attend another program this year, I want to encourage you to gain some applicable work or volunteer experience and apply to our program again for next year."
I don't want to discourage anyone but this almost made me cry. During the interview they said they would choose 15 alternates and last year, ALL the alternates were accepted. However, this email is VERY discouraging to me
I'm also an alternate for CSULB, which is my first choice. I'm currently 3rd on the list as Long Beach actually tells you where you stand. Long Beach definitely seems a little more promising at this point.
Hey guys,
I'm emailing CSUF and letting them know that I no longer wish to go there. That should open up one spot. It was a hard decision, but I was able to get into Long Beach and feel it is a better choice for me. I wrote before about how I thought it was odd that Fullerton won't allow you to specialize in any area besides leadership. At Long Beach, I can get a BSN, MSN and choose any area that I want for advance practice. I know that some of you have said that your overall goal is CRNA and that is why you are going to Fullerton. I just want to let you know that I've been emailing Fullerton back and forth and they have told me that even if you are in the Entry-Level masters program, you still have to reapply after 2 years of experience to the CRNA program, just like any other student. I asked if points were awarded to graduates of Fullerton and asked if EL-master students like us would have a "leg-up" on the competition and the answer was no. Wherever you choose to go, great opportunities will arise, but I just wanted to let everyone know that leadership is not advance practice and that was my main concern. When I first went to the information session, the power-point handout lead me to believe that I could choose mid-wifery, or CRNA during the masters portion, but that is not the case. Fullerton is still a great school and I wish you all the best.
JeanClaire: I hope you get into Long Beach! I was alternate 01 and wasn't offered admission until mid-day of the orientation. What did you think of their program?
Congratulations! I'm so jealous I like that their program takes three years to get your NP, not four like Fullerton. It's fast paced and will be challenging, but I think it will be worth it! I also thought the staff and faculty that we met were very nice. I've seen the sim lab at Fullerton and they have an awesome facility, however I think you're making the right choice with Long Beach. I was hoping I would be accepted during orientation, but no such luck. I just hope that at least three more people decide not to go to Long Beach so I can get a spot! Good luck to you and hopefully we'll be classmates :)
Oh, I hope you get in! The staff seemed so cool. Many of the ELM people I talked with were really freaked out. I'm sure some will drop out, it is definetly an intense program, especially the first half. I don't know if you noticed, but some of the ELM people never showed up to orientation and other people were falling asleep during it. I couldn't believe it. I thought I heard one of the instructors say that if you didn't show up to the mandatory orientation, your spot could be filled. You have a great chance! Best of luck to you as well.

Haha I agree with WhyBrat, that is great news! I was curious as to how far in the summer students from the waitlist were pulled off of it. However, it does worry me that we were notified almost two months ago! Anyways, I am still hoping I get lucky and get in! Good luck to all of us! I wonder if the fact that the main lady in charge of the alternate list left to the Peace Corps and her e-mails say the person taking her place will not start until early June has to do with anything?
