CSU Bakersfield Fall 2015 Nursing

Published

Hi,

I haven't seen a CSU Bakersfield thread anywhere for its Fall 2015 program, so I thought I'd make one for anyone that applied there.

I'm in the process of taking Physiology with lab now (under Prof. Stark). 2nd test coming up this week :arghh:

Anyone hoping to get into CSUB?!

web did. you get the syllabus?

At the meet and greet, they gave us the password to enroll in the Nurs 261 blackboard, and its on there listed under course materials.

Also, Meg7272, I haven't gotten the BLS card yet. I called him Friday, and he said American Heart was supposed to start processing them that afternoon. So, I'm guessing they should be here any day now. At least I'm hoping they should. It's the last thing I need to finish my packet.

Did anyone buy the scrubs from CSUB during the meet and greet? If so did you receive them yet? I haven't gotten a call from them

Sorry to bother you but can you send me the password and website I had written it down but i think i through the paper away? if you can't its okay i think they might give it in the orientation again for the people who didn't go to the meet and greet.

Reallynervous - I went to the shop on the Monday after the meet and greet and I haven't heard anything from them either. When I was there they said it would take about 2 weeks for them to come in. You should probably hear from them by the end of this week, or the beginning of next week at the latest. If not, then I would call.

Csub15 - I would send it to you, but I also threw away the paper I wrote it on, and I don't remember what it was unfortunately. Sorry :(

Thank you! It is the last thing I need as well, and I just want to have everything done :)

Does anyone know if we need to take general eds to graduate or is the program something completely different. I'm a transfer student and I don't really understand what classes we still need to take to graduate. I was looking at my IAP and the only classes there were the nursing program classes and not the general eds? Does anyone know anything about this haha

There's two places you can find it:

The main way is via this sheet: http://www.csub.edu/nursing/_files/Gen_Ed_Sheet%20%20Effective%20F13%20rev.%2010-13.pdf (I pulled it off the Pre-nursing CSUB page)

The other way is via myCSUB, click the "Plan" text link, then there's a button for "My Requirements".

Then, use Assist.org to verify classes you've taken at your other school if Admissions hasn't transferred your classes over yet.

Did anyone happen to buy the books yet? If you did, did you buy the recommended books for NURS 261? And also those of you who are taking patho, did you get the custom edition or the regular one? Thanks!

The professor for Patho is excellent, one of my favorites in college so far. Not east, but good. Based on student ratings of Patho and my experience of in Physio 255, you do not NEED the book as much as you need his lectures. He will be extremely pissed off if he knows you're not reading the book, but you may be safe to wait till the first day to hear what he says about getting the book. He told us we should get the book from his list, but ultimately any edition would do. IT COULD BE DIFFERENT in Patho, but it may more likely not be different.

Or just email him.

I just spoke to a friend who has been in the program for a year now, and I wanted to share with you guys what she said!

For those of us who didn't make it to the meet and greet, the access code for our blackboard courses should supposedly be emailed to us by --------------. As far as text books are concerned, they will be handed out in class. From what I hear, we won't get the books for a couple of weeks, but we will have online access from our purchases, and that will be most important. Hopefully this info hasn't changed much since last year. If any of you have heard anything different than what I've said, please correct me!!

Also, I just visited the campus for the first time the other day to try and find my classes. My schedule says I have (pre-hospital) clinical in the Science 2 building in room 182, but I couldn't find that room... I called the department and she said to show up at Romberg the day of our clinical and they will sort us out there by section. Again, if anyone knows differently please respond!

@reallynervous, I am going to purchase the regular one for patho because it's cheaper, and probably just as sufficient as the custom edition. For nurs261, I'm not buying the recommended materials just because the required books are already over $500 :( I'm sure we won't be tested on materials we aren't required to buy. Also, my IAP isn't completed either, she must not have entered all of our classes from our previous school yet.

@ThatOneDude822 From the syllabus, is there anything we need to know right now? Anything we need to bring for the first day? I'm not sure when or even if we will be emailed an access code, so I just want to be prepared in case we won't be getting an email soon. I will ask at orientation or call -----------------ilson, but if you have any info right now then that would be helpful! :)

For those of you who attended the meet and greet, was there anything we need to know prior to starting school? Any info from you guys who went would be helpful! One more thing, a few of you mentioned stethoscopes, did they say we needed that before we start school?

One more question. For the Required Safety Documentation Packet, are we turning in all the forms blank? I'm assuming so because we do not know a lot of the information yet, but there are a few forms we could sign right now.

@rrich7 The textbooks handed out in class are just the ATI books. There are more required texts on top of that that are listed in thr syllabus. I don't know if you knew that already, I just didn't want you to be surprised when class started. The first quarter the books are super expensive but you continue to use a lot of those books as references throughout the year.

Thank you!! Do you know where we pick up the books for 261? Or are they mailed to us? I haven't ordered them yet so this question may be answered once I do
