CSN Spring 2015

Published

Is anyone applying for Spring 2015 Nursing Program 2015? I applied for Fall 2014 with 37 points and will be applying for Spring 2015 with 38 points. Does anyone have pointers for the application process? Has anyone gone to the limited entry workshop? I have been discouraged, and need some uplifting information.

Ok good! I think when i went into A&P everyone has a different story about what happens once your a nurse! Ive been going to NSC in the summers to do my pre reqs for my BSN, and I did hear that your nursing degree there would be $60,000 starting maybe next fall, but they are making a whole new building just for the nursing dept.

I've been watching this site for the last year. I finally signed up.

I am an Alternate with only 23 points (Full time track). I'm currently taking my last two classes; Bio 224 and Bio 251.

Congratulations to everyone who made it!

Hi christina thanks for taking the time to give us all this information, and I sent you a message about getting added to your page, so I have already been taking all my pre req for BSN, I talked to a popular instructor over at CSN in the Biology Dept, and he told me the smartest thing for me to do was to finish at CSN and then go for BSN online, thats what I plan on doing, he said everyone wants to hire CSN nursing students, but I have also heard many students talking about all this so its a little nerve wracking, I am def. doing the CSN program but when I started had I know we did not go to school in the summer and its gonna take 2 more years to finish I think I would have chosen another school, Just me bc i have so many credits, the only thing I think I am going to take over at NSC in the summer is Chem and I have done everything else a possible school would want for a BSN except the nursing portion, I may have misunderstood you but did you say our pay is going to be very low for having a ADN?

No, pay is the same for RN's. Now if you end up getting your MSN I'm not sure. What I meant was that tuition is cheap at CSN compared to other schools.

thank you everyone for piping in with advice. Christina, I hadn't even considered the research aspect of an advantage of the BSN.

Goingforrn....I think Christina was saying that CSN is less expensive than NSC or UNLV, not that the pay was different ADN vs BSN.

NSC is petitioning whoever governs that kind of stuff to raise tuition rates almost double to the current rate for the BSN program starting fall 2015. Something to consider.

I'm not sure if it's an advantage. I was just pointing out that it's a difference between the programs.

I think it's asinine that NSC is doubling tuition for BSN. I remember when NSC was an affordable school. Those days are long gone.

so the process includes automatic acceptance for CSN graduates which is really cool for us. you are required to do pre reqs but if you have them already done awesome. if not you can do them while you take your upper division nursing courses.... no employment time is required. just need to pass your nclex before starting. The program is available every semester to start....GPA requirements include 2.5 for pre reqs and 3.0 for ADN coursework. It is all done online and clinical time can be completed at your hospital of employment when the time comes. Applications need to be submitted minimum 3 weeks before the semester you plan on beginning starts.

I currently only have 5 courses need for pre reqs at NSC. I plan on taking those five courses over summers and while in the ADN...yes I know it sounds crazy but I rather get all of this over with as soon as possible. All the courses I need are available online during the summer so I will be able to have somewhat of a normal summer vacation.  hope this helps!

Thanks!! That's definitely helpful information. I started school Spring 2012 and I must admit The last three semesters I felt burnt out. I think it's because fall 2012 I just over did it with classes. Now I know that I need a break from time to time and I will be taking Summer break because I plan to study for the classes following each semester. I heard a person from the nursing program stating they had to read like 5 chapters in between exams. I also heard that the nursing program is more challenging than all the biology courses.

Specializes in Public Health.

Hahaha first exam is on 20 chapters. Remember that you need to understand concepts, not memorize every word.

Is there reading we can start on before the semester starts? And is the 700 dollar box of books the only way to go or has anyone gotten their books elsewhere?

Yeah, 5 chapters is nothing! Most tests have much more than that like hundreds of pages. The nursing program is a different kind of challenging compared to biology courses. As SlinkyHead said, memorizing will get you nowhere. You really have to understand the concepts if you want to succeed. You also have to keep in mind that in addition to studying for lecture and keeping up with assignments, you will have several clinical papers due for each class which are sometimes more time consuming than studying for tests. I just finished up a 36 page case study that took me 2 weeks to complete. The material is not difficult but you have to be able to keep up or you will be screwed.

I wouldn't read in advance because there's a good chance that you will forget what you need to know. Plus it's likely that you will not get any reading assignments until maybe a week before classes start so you won't have much time. You absolutely do not have to spend $700 on books. You can always buy used online and save hundreds, although I would not recommend buying old editions because they like to change up the page numbers and you will waste time trying to figure out what you need to read. Be prepared to spend lots of money between tuition, books, uniforms, supplies and testing fees. Save money any way you're able to!

Thank you so much. Do you know when they give us the book list I want to start buying books asap. So I can spread it over the next few months. Possibly put th on my Christmas list. Lol

You should get the book list at your first orientation. All of those books will be needed for 1st semester and beyond so it's best to get them all but definitely start buying early! Haha I always have school stuff on my Christmas/birthday wish lists! For the last 2 years I've always gotten books/uniforms as gifts! Lol :) that's the life of a broke nursing student!

Christina from your experience, besides student loans, is there any opportunities for scholarships or is that few and far between?
