CSN Spring 2011 RN Program

U.S.A. Nevada

Good Afternoon All!

I thought it was about time to begin a thread for those applying for entry into the Spring 2011 RN Program at CSN. My big question is: Will you be applying to the full-time or part-time program and with how many points? It might also be nice to get to know some of our (hopefully) future classmates! I am applying to the Full-Time program with 29 points. Will that be enough? I sure hope so!

Good luck to everyone and I look forward to reading your replies!

All I can do now, is hope that the lowest for next fall would be 25.......

I would like to congratulate all of you who were accepted into CSN Nursing Program. :yeah: I would like to say if you didn't get accepted hang in there!!! From what I read, it sounds like there were a lot of applicants this semester and so the points accepted were higher as well. Don't get discouraged, just do what you can to increase your points, and take classes like pathophysiology, abnormal psych, math, medical terminology, and nutrition. These classes will be very beneficial for you once you are in the program!

All incoming students, there are a few things you should know before you start. The orientation is very long, but listen to what they tell you because the information is important. Be prepared for every class, especially clinical. You will lose 3% of your grade if you show up late to clinical or lab, this course is very fast and that 3% makes a huge difference between passing and failing!!! Make sure you have your clinical tickets with you on your first day of clinical! Keep it in your car where you won't lose it!!!! Study, study, study, study like you have never studied before. This program is tough, the tests are tough, and the workload and stress don't help. You will find you don't have enough time for it all, so if you don't study, you will regret it. This is a bad time to procrastinate, it will effect your grade!!!! Don't worry about your schedule either. They basically assign it to you. Everyone will be given a number at orientation and all the schedules are posted on the wall. You can look at the schedules and write down which ones work best for you. You need to pick at least 5 schedules, because they go fast, and you may not get your first pick. You will register for pharmacology online like you do with regular classes. Good luck everybody, if you put in the time and work, it will pay off! :) Time to get back to writing papers!!! :nurse:

Specializes in future OB/L&D nurse(I hope) or hospice.

Hey Janell, Congrats!!! do you have any idea what the min. points was for part time? I will be submitting next semester and just want to get an idea. Thanks

Aw Thanks!! I have no idea for part time because I had 29 and the only other person I knew who was accepted on the part time track had 29. I know from experience that having at least 27 pts. is a good guideline to follow. Before I took Micro I was a standby person for part time with 24pts but that was a few semesters ago and at the time the number of students accepted was also higher.

Thanks so much for the info. I guess I will just retake my English in order to make sure I have 29 points. Good luck. I'm not too far behind. LOL

I just turned in my application with 25 points. Needless to say, I am not holding my breath. I was pretty surprised at how quickly they processed my transcripts though. Good luck to everyone!

Ambierj-I am currently in reno & will be transferring credits... I was wondering where u transferred credits from & exactly how long did it take them to process your transcripts? Did you do anything special? Thanks!

just had my TST, and first step was positive of tb. for sure, i dont have active tb on the other hand have latent. will that affect my admission to the program? :(

Unfortunately, yes it will. Hopefully step 2 will come back negative. They will have you get a chest x-ray too, but from what I understand they will not allow you in the program. I don't know a whole lot about it, but when I started, the same thing happened with someone and they were not permitted in the program. Your advisor will give you more information about it. Good luck.

Switblad - It shouldn't keep you out of the program if you get a CXR and it comes back OK. Many people I know from places in Africa have positive TSTs and they have to get CXRs, which works out better because they are good for 2 years, not just 1.

Switblad - It will not keep you from the program. You will just need to go through a few extra steps. You will need to get a chest xray and if that is negative you may need to go through a recommended course of preventive treatment, if not you just have to provide the documentation of negative chest xray. For more information you can look at the TB skin test policy http://sites.csn.edu/health/TBSkinTestPolicy.pdf

It also says for *CONFIRMED or SUSPECTED TB INFECTION – CSN Infection Control Manager and Southern Nevada Health District must be notified immediately. This is the woman, Jean Wolfe, at orientation who spoke to us about vaccinations. Contact her and she will be able to help you. She handed out a yellow piece of paper with all of her information on it. I don't have it with me, but I believe her office phone number is 651-5595

Ive done a little research here and there, mostly of them says that if my CXR come back negative that shouldnt keep me out of the program. I was so scared when my doctor told me iam positive for tb, totally freaked out :( i asked my mom if I had the BCG vac when I was little, sure I had it! so that sort of explain it as well. Ill contact Jean Wolfe early tom to check and I will get my CXR done too. Ill keep you guys posted!

Thank you soooo much ~hmck32, jimmah555 and stepahniem13.
