Cross Country vs. American Mobile

I am considering traveling with one or the other. Can I have some pros/cons for each for those of you who have traveled with both?

So, for all of you seasoned travelers, what do you say to your recrutiers? Do you spell it out saying "I want x amt of money (tax free vs taxed) I want x amt for housing, ins etc. None of this blended BS! I see nurses say that they won't work for any hospital that requires PBSD testing (totally agree with them on that issue). I know when I traveled with CC back in early 2000, I had everything spelled out as far as hours, time off, guarantee shifts, etc. But things seemed very straightforward. You got x amt per hr, x amt for bonus and housing/insurance.

Okay, I'll play...

Sitting in Sacramento with an American Mobile traveler.

We compared contracts.

I'm making a full 8.00/hr MORE than he is... That's PER HOUR!

Work for AMN and any of their affiliate companies and bring the KY because you're getting screwed.

I am doing my first assignment with American Mobile and I have not had any problems at all. I love my recruiter, she has been great. Never had problems with housing, pay, or anything like that. Never worked for CC, so I can't speak for them.

I'm a seasoned traveler and I would stay clear of BIG companies they always have big overhead which = less money in our pockets!! I did my research and talked and listened to other travelers and I went with Flexcare, they are a top 10 company yet they don't advertise, clearly they are built on referrals which must be a good thing!! My recruiter is a straight shooter, I told her what I wanted and needed and she always gives me options...."Listen Dina you can make this here vs. this here" We all get into traveling for the money, the experience but I think the most important thing, the glue the sticks it all together is the recruiter!! Good Luck to all of you!! Please let me know if you have some questions or need any help!!:D

This is where different companies may suit different travelers. Unlike the above poster I have stayed with a large company long term. The money was not as high as some, but they have been able to keep me constantly employed throughout the "economic downturn". I haven't had the problem of "My contract is over and I can't find a new one." I do think that many recruiters may put more effort into finding a position for a long term traveler who has done multiple contracts for them and is a known quantity.

I worked for American Mobile and was a total nightmare. The recruiter was rude and when there was a huge problem, she would not return my call for the remainer of my assignment! It was truly there the worst experience ever. My recommendation is there are more than enough companies out there you don't have to use American Mobile for any of it's sister companies.

I've been traveling with AM and I have an incredible recruiter. it's all about the recruiter. She used to be with Nurse Finders but I kept her with the merge (AMN bought NF last fall) and didn't have to stay with the other recruiter I had originally with AM and didn't like/trust although she did get me a good situation initially. PM me if you want info.

I am currently working with Flexcare to find me a position. I also was referred to Flexcare through a traveler, which I thought that was interesting being I never saw them advertise like others do. I hope everything works out with them and hope to keep in touch with you if I ever need any advice about thus company!

On a side note, what is an "exclusive contract"? Meaning what you promise not to work with another company within so much time?

I am considering Supplemental Healthcare. Out of everyone I talked to they seem to have the most take home pay..not sure. Havent talked to them all. That will take awhile. haha

For example, if you want to work at Stanford, you can only go through American Mobile, or if Darmouth, then through Cross Country.

An exclusive contract is one between a hospital and an agency. The hospital allows the company to do the screening, interview and job offer. I didn't have a chance to speek with anyone at the hospital until I got there. Even had to do 8 hours of computer tests and forms.

I have worked for both companies. First, they are not owned by the same parent company. I have traveled for 7 yrs, and most of that time has been with CC, it has had great housing, pay, benefits and most importantly great clinical support if things get bad clinically. They are not deceptive, my recruiter is easy to get in touch with and always follows through, housing makes every effort to accomidate my expectations and if they are not met, they do all they can to fix things. My experience with AMN was not bad, it was just very difficult for the recruiter to get back with me I never felt there was a personal connection and they never got to know me, followthrough was really bad. If you want my recruter with CC's name just email.
