Hello,
I'm new to this site but am finding it really useful! I'm canadian but did my nursing degree in the UK, and I currently practicing in England. I'm due to sit the CRNE on the 7th October and have read some scary posts on its level of difficulty. I have the study guides and will continue to study for the next 8 weeks until I fly over to toronto to sit it. I'm extremely nervous....anybody got any further pointers for me????
I can't wait for my family to start our life in Canada pending me passing this exam (so no pressure Eh!)......and a new job in toronto would be great!!!!!
Good luck to all of those that are sitting it the same day as me!
Just phoned CNO who said they DO NOT sent out exam ID to overseas applicants and has given me my exam ID over the phone. Is this just CNO or because I am just writing there but registering in British Columbia? I had a letter from the CNO saying I would receive a letter so don't know whats going on except confusion!!
It's true that the CNO don't post anything to overseas applicants...I'm overseas and got my information by email and have to pick up my ID on the days of the Exam......Only 11 days left of studying (in between working) until i fly to canada!!!!!! I'm so nervous!!!!! bet i'm not the only one!!!! good luck to you all!!!
Hi guys,
this could be seen as silly, but does anyone have an idea how much difficult is the real CRNE compared to the prep guide? like, is it twice as difficult or thrice or ten times more difficult :)
Also any additional opinion on how helpful the Lippincott guide is when taking the "real thing". So far I find Lippincott a tad more difficult than the Prep Guide.
Please note I'm not asking anything content specific or format, but a personal opinion. Last year I spoke to a former coworker a few days after the exam, she just said negative things like "tricky", "awful" and "felt like crying", not very encouraging I know, but she did pass.
Hope that answering my question won't pose an ethical concern :)

I think the exam is difficult in the sense that there are a lot of questions to read through carefully. It is difficult because while reading and answering all these questions you will be sitting in an unfamiliar environment, feeling anxious. You could try preparing for this by duplicating the exam conditions as much as possible. Try sitting in a big room, (maybe a public library?) do this at the same time of day the exam will be, bring a pencil, a sample answer sheet and your watch. Read and answer as many questions as you can, as you do this, reassure yourself that you understand more than 50% of the questions and know more than 50% of the answers. Don't let the ones you don't know trip you up, just answer the best you can and move on. Stay calm and focused. After your done reward yourself with an Icecapps!
As far as study guides, care4nurses reccomends both the Mosby's Canadian comprehensive review of nursing 2nd edition and the Canadian RN exam prep guide as resources. The Mosby's was written by Canadian nursing educators. I don't know how the Lipincott compares to the Mosby's, maybe someone else can comment?
kindest regards to all of you who are studying for the crne

Mosby is closer in question style to N-CLEX (yes I am talking CRNE version) in my opinion. However, it's very good for reviewing content.
The CNA book has exactly the style of question that are in the exam but the exam is way trickier, in the sense that even getting down to 50/50 for the answers is hard.
It would be nice if the CNA book had 3 times as many questions as it's practice that makes perfect! However, it doesn't so just make sure when you study that even if you get a question right you go over the rational to make sure you know why you were right.
Good luck everyone!!
 I have been reading everyone's post for a long time and decided to chip in my two cents. In my own opinion the CNA competencies is a must read ( seen in the appendix page of the CRNE prep guide) because it breaks down topics that must be mastered for the exam. The lippincott and mosby also come in handy for Med surg/ mental health reviews but the CRNE prep guide is the most important and you need to learn the language of the exam in order to understand what the questions are asking.
God's grace everyone on the exam....
Hi guys, thank you for all the info, definitely worth to come back and have a look from time to time.
I'm studying by the Mosby 2nd ed (not the latest one) and kind of concerned that I'm having a hard time to get more than 77% in the practice questions. What do you guys think?
I wonder if it's just me but I find the Lippincott questions more closer to those in the CRNE guide than Mosby's (like RGN1 said).

Hi sheng31 :)
I just want this to be over, that's the only thing I can tell you for certain.
BTW, I truly dislike the location where I'm going to write the exam: opposite end of the city
I was hoping for something more "downtownish". Guess I'll still find a Tim Hortons there; I'll need my Icecapp!!
