At a recent concert I was arrested and charged with assault 3rd on an officer, public intox, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Prior to this I've only been in trouble once in '06 for a domestic case with my husband and it was null processed. I've hired an attorney but I've been told you have to self report these things to the board. I'm scared to death I'll lose my license and therefore my ability to support my family. I have lost so much sleep over this and wanted to know has this happened to anyone else in Alabama? Please no ugly comments I'm beating myself up enough! I have small kids and I'm so disgusted!

Sorry this happened, and hope you have minimal consequences with the Board.

I only have negative things to say to you, thus I shall remain silent!

Report the incident to The Board, as the law requires, and join Alcoholics Anonymous, it will look good the The Board. They can't babysit your children during the AA meeting so you will need to get a sitter. This conviction probably qualifies as an offence of moral turpitude to The Board-conduct that is considered contrary to community standards of justice, honesty or good morals. That would typically prohibit someone from beginning nursing school. What state are you in? We will look for your name in the back part of your state BON's magazine where they publish names of nurses who have been disciplined. Hope it's not a revocation.

Suspension/stipulations on your license/fines/revocation are real possibilities. Start planning now.

I would look into hiring a lawyer with BON experience while you still have the funds. You might get to work out a stipulated agreement with the BON and get moved over to their monitoring program, best case scenario.

As well as starting to attend AA meetings ASAP, I would add that you should seek out the help of a therapist and possibly anger management. Since I don't know what began the incident I don't know if anger management would be recommended, but I'm assuming that with assault and resisting that it wouldn't hurt!
Good luck! Seek legal counsel with someone who has experience working with the BON.

This would be the first step of showing accountability. Nobody is perfect we all have some vices that may encroach in our profession but the sooner you deal with your issues the better you can be at nursing. :-)

Something's not adding adding up. You have a serious lack of judgment and lack of self control. I'm not being negative, just stating the obvious. How did this happen and yes, get into counseling as soon as tomorrow
