It's no secret. We all know that nurses see a lot of crazy/gross/nasty things when on duty. Would anybody be willing to share their story with us? Please, don't spare any details.

I'm interested in your stories because I know that it's not all rainbows and kittens. There must be things that sometimes you'd wish you could un-see or un-experience (I know that's not a real word). Whether that be sticking your fingers in a patient's wound (for whatever reason), or having phlegm coughed on you, etc. Don't be shy.

I'm very curious to know some of the things I might see and/or experience once I become a nurse. Being a nurse is so exciting!!!!! 😃😃😃😃

This was over 30 years ago, but the docs could have been related:

14 year old girl had an uncomplicated appy, 3 inch RLQ incision, stapled, no big deal.

Surgeon came in to check on her-pulled the gown up to her neck, and her panties to mid thigh. Her nurse was there, reported his behavior.

As punishment, he had to be accompanied by staff whenever he examined a female patient.

That was it. He brought in a lot of revenue for the hospital, and things like this were routinely swept under the rug in the 70s and 80s. (Like the Orthopod who jammed his hand in my crotch, laughed when I told him to stop, said I actually liked it and if I said anything it would be my word against his, and since he was a Surgeon, guess who would be believed, and who would be out of a job? This would have been 1980-ish).

I'll add my pediatrician who used to do shirt off, bra off exams on me for recurrent earaches, while pressing in to me. I was 12 and had big boobs. Finally begged my mom to stay with me- the earaches were so common she had stopped going in with me.

He made you take off your shirt & bra for your ear infection? That is messed up. I'm sorry, for both of you - Jensmon & Farawyn.

I had a patient once whose 'trouble' started under his foreskin....he and his wife were in an assisted living apartment.

He had dementia but had not required ADL ass't as he had his wife claim she helped him bathe. But one day at lunch he had a spill onto his lap and rather than disturb the wife's meal, one of the PCA's took him to his apt. to help him change his pants. UH-OH!

Apparently the PCA had to peel his underwear off his member (gucky dried and wet purulent drainage). The patient totally denied there was anything at all wrong with his "johnson".

He saw a doc and Home Health was ordered to do dressing changes, which pt. often removed.

Fast forward a few weeks, no healing, and in fact things were worse, so additionally he was cathed with an indwelling hoping to keep the area clean and dry. Didn't do much good. He had to be debrided to the point where his member no longer really resembled a member.

A while latter he became the first patient I'd ever had who'd had a penectomy.

THIS IS A GOOD ONE! Made me cringe.

Being with a doctor on rounds who decides to examine a 14 year old's breasts, fondling them, in front of her father, when that has nothing to do with her diagnosis, and nothing is said because no one questions the doctor... Later it is revealed the doctor ordered and was taking drugs in his patient's names and then later did lose his license!

Wait what, you were with him on rounds?? Please tell me I misunderstood that...or that you did stop him...

Anyway, he's lucky that wasn't my almost-14 yr old daughter and her dad. My husband would rid him of more than his license.

The most disgusting thing that comes to mind is this brown (sometimes comes in other colors) stuff that comes out of people's rectum.
