Coworker wanted to trade shifts

I was off for Thanksgiving this year. A co-worker was begging me to take her shift and would not leave me alone about it. I told her that I'd do it but I'd need $600 cash prior. She said, "I'M NOT GOING TO PAY YOU" and hung up.

Ah. I mean, I wasn't going to do it anyway, but what kind of response do you expect when I'm at home drinking wine at 11pm?! After I had already politely told you no?!

Out of interest - what are the most popular dates to request off?? The only holiday I really care about is Christmas. I'll happily work Thanksgiving, Black Friday (not an actual holiday, I know, but still.....), July 4th, New Years....

Thanksgiving and Christmas are my main two. Pretty much, I don't care about any other holiday. Used to always want Easter off, when we were actually going to church. Also Halloween used to be a big one, but now my kids are older, and we get no trick or treaters where I live now, so...

I do REALLY like having July 4th off now, because we moved into a great new

house recently with a deck, a pool, and a big ol' backyard. :) But, if I

don't get if off, no big deal. It isn't traditionally one of my favorite

holidays.

anytime I can work a full shift and get time and one half I'll take it. I work for money not for praise.

To Apple-Core - SUPER BOWL SUNDAY is a very, very big one.

Also Mother's Day and Father's Day.

Nontraditional. And they all fall on weekends which make things worse than usual.

For those who never thought about it, just watch the callouts!

Thank you for all the responses about this - good to know. I hate football, so I'll happily pick up that shift too. Wonder if I'll be able to wangle Christmas Eve, Day and the 26th off.....every year! LOL!

I'm also usually happy to work Christmas and any of the related holidays because I cant stand this time of the year and if it gives people who like this time of the year a chance to enjoy the holiday with their family and friends

Except this year, i still hate christmas, but theres a strong possibility it will be my mums last christmas and we've found our recently my brother in laws prognosis is limited to weeks instead of the months we all thought he had so have asked my manager if it would be possible to not work Christmas day but am happy to work boxing day, new years day and the day after

special circumstances not to be overlooked. sometimes things work out this way. I'm sorry to hear of so much pain in your life at this time. I know you would work if you did not have this special circumstance. good luck with that request, remind your manager that you work every Christmas but this year is different and you definitely need it off.

The facility I work does 8 hour shifts. I believe its because of Union.

Anyways, working holidays isn't so bad because all my family festivities are local and doesn't start until 1800.

No wine for me.

New Years Eve is popular here it seems like... also TG and Christmas. Any other holidays, meh... I honestly don't care. I'll work 4th of July, Easter, the superbowl etc.

If I were in retail I would NOT want to work Black Friday. No way!

In retail, you don't get the choice. The entire staff works.

I remember several coworkers at different jobs telling me I should have to work holidays and they should get them off because they had children and I don't. Uh, no. That's not how it works.

I had a coworker once who scored tickets to some show on New Years Eve. She actually did pay someone some significant sum of cash to take her shift.

I've had coworkers in similar situations who were offering cash. I helped them out but refused the money. Maybe I'm paranoid, or maybe I just don't know the value of money but.........no way.

I just think it can come back and bite you in the tush. Management/administration finds out and......well, no telling what they'll choose to do with that information.

Yeah, I'm just paranoid I guess.
