COVID-19: NCLEX Changed!!

Published

Have you guys seen the new update for the NCLEX exam?

What are your thoughts?

I see it a lot harder to prove that you’re competent. I don’t want to be a downer but doesn’t that mean with less questions you’ll need a greater percentage of correct questions to satisfy the competency level?

But again 4 hrs for a max of 130 questions is quite a lot of time to prove competency. Also

I also feel like they changed the standards. They just won’t straight out say that cause people gonna be going cray cray. We bout to see everybody with a license soon. But I pray it’s for the best.

Anyone from NY who scheduled their NCLEX?? I’m graduating in a week & will be registering/scheduling the NCLEX soon but us students graduating are hearing that it may be months before we can actually take the NCLEX due to covid-19 there is limited availability for testing so the dates are all booked until august/September. We have no idea how true this is & I’m wondering if anyone just recently scheduled their test for NY and was able to get an earlier date?

I live in Texas but I was hearing the same while I was waiting for my ATT and that wasn't the case at all. I got my ATT the last week of April, the earliest date available was June 8, then I checked back the next day and a bunch of May dates had opened so I rescheduled.

Hi! I am from New York and just took my NCLEX today. I finished nursing school back in January and was scheduled to take my NCLEX in March. My NCLEX was cancelled three times due to the coronavirus before being able to take it today. So far they do have dates available but they are limited. I picked out my date in May to take my NCLEX back in April. I suggest you check everyday to try to get a sooner date as people tend to drop or reschedule their testing dates all the time. Also don't be surprised if it does get cancelled, but I hope it doesn't.

To be fair, just because you have 30 seconds more per question doesn't necessarily mean it's easier. You either know the answer or you don't. Having that additional 30 seconds isn't going to change that. The only situation this would make it easier is for those who ran out of time on the previous NCLEX. Unless you're one of those individuals, this time difference really isn't an "advantage". If you only got 75 questions and took 3 hours to answer them, you took way longer than the 1.5 minutes you should have per question. You just didn't run out of time because the exam cut you off at 75 and didn't make you continue through all the questions. The same applies here. I took 1 hour to answer 60 questions. That's a minute per question. My exam cut off at 60. I wouldn't say I was disadvantaged because I worked through faster than the alloted 1.5 minutes just as I wouldn't have said I was at an advantage by having 2 minutes per question. I don't know if I passed yet, but the extra time doesn't make the exam any easier unless anxiety over being timed affects your testing abilities to a point where you consistently do poorly on tests but then you can apply for an exemption and get more time to take the NCLEX anyways.

Remember: NCLEX can be taken in ANY state with results sent to Board of nursing in state you plan to work to obtain that states license.

COVID hard hit states: PA, NJ, NY, CONN, MASS, CA, WA may want to look at different state to test in for quicker test date.

Best wishes to all new grads during these trying times,
