COT/Stationing Assignments from November Boards!!!!

Published

Hey everyone! When you find out when you're going to COT and where you get stationed, let everyone know!

I just found out today! I'm going to COT in January, and got stationed at Travis, which was my second choice! I'll also be doing NTP in Scottsdale, AZ, only 2 hours away from where I live - which is really really convenient!

Good luck to everyone! If you haven't heard today, I'm guessing you'll hear by Monday or Tuesday... if you're an NTP candidate, at least. I think maybe people with experience are going to hear later than us, according to some other posts I've read?

I spoke with the program manager in Texas. She stated that if we have not heard anything then we will more than likely be going in march. January COTS has been filled and there are no more seats available. They had an overwhelming response this year and she told me that this time of the year is when they get the most applicants anyway. In addition, she is the only one doing most of the reviewing and as a single person, she could not get to everyone; therefore, if there were no problems with your application, you will be getting in soon. Not many qualified RNs made the cut. The key to not knowing any information is to find out for yourself. I did a lot of researching to find the person that I should contact because I was not satisfied with just not knowing. The recruiters have the authority to make the same phone call I made and this apparently wasn't done on my behalf. I have made a lot of sacrifices in hopes of making the January COTS and we should have atleast been informed at this point that it was not possible. In the defense of the recruiters, don't know if it's true, but my recruiter's supervisor said they just found out this info yesterday, that COTS was full for January; ironically after I made some phone calls. But on a brighter note, we have to patient and when we feel as though the answer is not good enough, we have the power to find the answer. Don't lose hope and stay encouraged. Be Blessed!!!!

When you say that not many qualified RN's made the cut, do you mean for the January COT assignment or for getting in period? Also did she give you a time frame as to when the rest could be finding out?

Sorry, did not mean to confuse you. I meant for the January COT only; the chances of not getting in the service is slim to none as a professional nurse. And she did give me a time frame; those of us who were on the November boards will probably hear something in a week or two regarding whether or not you were accepted.

There is a RUMOR (so take it with a grain of salt), that there is going to be an extra board to muddle through the deluge of applicants so they can get to us qualified RN's. I think that most of us qualified people who made it to that final stage of turning in everything, going through MEPS, and interviews will all get in.... eventually.

This means just Everything to me to get back in. I have a job and a good life here. It is actually going to be a pay cut and have lots of challenges to leave. But I want to be in more than I can describe. I'm ok waiting, as long as they'll take me in the end.

The increase in apps is inversely proportional to the state of the economy - when the economy tanks, everyone wants to go in the military - when the economy's fat, fewer people apply.

You mean you're making more than $5000 a month now? Because that's just about what I make with all pay and allowances (something like $4860-something). And you may as well include another $375 a month in there, too, because that's what I paid for our health insurance - not counting the deductible and the copays....

I clear in one paycheck very, very close what I used to clear A MONTH when I was an RN on the outside. And out of that check I paid my car payment, my student loans, my mortgage...my mortgage went away thanks to housing (we rented out our house in NC), and of course my student loans are just DAYS from going bye-bye as well.

Don't forget your allowances. Also - your inactive reserve time counts for pay purposes but not for retirement. So my date of pay is in 2001! By the time I make Captain in three years, I'll make more a month than a 25 year E9 - my BASE PAY will be more than what I make now with all my allowances. Seriously. It's insane.

Carolinapooh,

You are so excited and happy about what you are doing that it is infectious! love it!

And yes, I do take home more than $5,000 a month. I get paid more for night shift, BSN Bonus, and my CCRN bonus. When I'm charge nurse or precept a new nurse, there is more bonus in that too. I was glad to hear from the recruiter that my TIS and my inactive reserve time counted! That is cool.

I'm not complaining about a pay cut. I just have to make my bills. I can't sell my house in this market, so I am planning on paying that mortgage along with whatever housing I get. If I get a renter, great! But I generally plan for the worst and hope to be pleasantly surprised. :)

Wow - you're one of the few.

So many folks forget about all the bennies I always feel compelled to point them out...glad I didn't offend! :0)

Rent your house out. We're getting five hundred a month MORE than our mortgage payment. It rented in two weeks.

Thanks everyone! I did indeed get commissioned today! It was pretty special... since I currently work as the school nurse at my old high school, which has an Air Force JROTC program, I got to be commissioned in front of the class of JROTC leaders, by the Colonel that heads up the program. My high school principal, assistant principal, guidance counselor, and senior year English teacher were there, along with my mom and dad, grandparents, my nursing coworker and most of our student TAs. The Colonel made it really special for me and my family... there were definitely tears! :) It is a day I will never forget!

How many more hours a week are you working in the army? What is the standard? Is 4 12 hr shifts a week standard? Cause if it is thats 50hr weeks which could be tuff to do for 20 years. The other thing that seems annoying is the constant rotating night shifts every 3 months. The extra hours and nightshift are definetely worth more money. Not to mention when you deploy I hear they work 6 12s every week. Anyone concur?

Jerry,

When you sign up for the military you really can not try to figure out an hourly wage. I was prior service and had days that lasted from 0530 until 2330. A civilian would not tolerate that. It is just part of serving. USAF will be good pay, but you can make more in civilian sector. I may make more money, but I still want something more. Decide where your grass is greenest, because there are bugs in everyone's grass.
