Cute Tiny Blonde Girl

Specialties Correctional

Published

I have been looking into all aspects of nursing, and I have been told I could not work (or it wasn't a good idea) in a correctional facility as a "cute tiny 5'1 blonde girl" (LOL) What are your guy's thoughts? I think I could be a great nurse, I am tiny, but I also don't take any **** from mean/rude/manipulative people. So I personally thought id be good, but maybe not?

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions! (:

Your looks have nothing to do with it.

I personally didn't think so, but after hearing it so much, I thought id start a thread on it. Just quoting what some people told me. :)

Thanks for the reply.

I was the same as you, 5'2", petite & blonde when I first went into corrections. But looks have zero to do with it. Inmates will tell anyone they are attractive to get what they want.

Glad to see that you guys agree on my opinion, makes me feel better. I told them (all 3 male, and no I am not speaking for all males) the same thing, all three of them (I know them personally) are known to be a little sexist so I just kind of shrugged it off and told them I was capable. Just wanted to see all of your opinions though, so thank you for replying. :)

Well, IMHO

I would worry about:

1) getting accepted into

2) and graduating from an accredited nursing program

3) passing the NCLEX

4) getting some job experience

BEFORE

I would worry about whether or not to consider a career in correctional nursing.

Wait a minute, aren't you the one who wants to work in OB or ER????

Yes. Cute tiny blonde, not a princess, correctional OB NICU nurse to be!

I sure am! All aspects of nursing! Don't mind me just going to go ahead and become an Emergency OB/NICU nurse working in a correctional facility might as well specialize in 4 different areas. ;)

First get into nursing school & do clinicals. Maybe once you get into school you will realize OB/NICU isn't as fun or glamorous as it seems.

Quoting from my last thread about OB/NICU :)

I want to work in OB/NICU because I have always had a desire to help babies get better and go home to a good family (I know that doesn't always happen), and comfort the family when everything doesn't turn out to be "glitter, rainbows, and puffy clouds" for them.

and then....

I have thought about ER because no day is the same and I am an adrenaline junkie, both my brother and mom work in the ER and they love it. If I was to work in the ER I would work my way up to life flight.

As far as correction facility, it just seemed very interesting. So I asked around.

I know I have a lot of ambition and I am thinking far ahead as well as so many different interests; but thinking about all the things that I could have a chance to do inspires me. It helps. :)
