Cute Tiny Blonde Girl

Specialties Correctional

Published

I have been looking into all aspects of nursing, and I have been told I could not work (or it wasn't a good idea) in a correctional facility as a "cute tiny 5'1 blonde girl" (LOL) What are your guy's thoughts? I think I could be a great nurse, I am tiny, but I also don't take any **** from mean/rude/manipulative people. So I personally thought id be good, but maybe not?

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions! (:

Thanks not what "she said" ;) hahahahaha

.. LOL!

I'm 5'2 120lbs and without trying to sound full of myself, I'm "pretty" (ughhh no matter what you say before that it just sounds gross).

My experience has been a good one. But that is only because I keep the inmates in check whenever they step over that imaginary line. It's like raising children, really. They will always test you to see what they can get away with.

My first weeks were full of cat calls and inappropriate comments so I spend a great deal of time writting each and every one of them up to show them I wasn't taking any of their garbage. Hold your head high with confidence and look them dead in the eye when you are talking to them. Demand respect and be consistent because once you show weakness, you're days are going to get rough.

These guys will sweet talk anything that remotely looks like a female so it really has nothing to do with how "cute" you are, it has everything to do with you having a lady parts. If you have a strong backbone, you'll do fine.

A lot of my staff are diminutive females. Their stature and appearance have nothing to do with how effective that they are in their jobs. Sometimes it can be an advantage, because some inmates don't feel as threatened by a female. Probably 90 percent of correctional nursing is how you carry yourself. If you keep it professional and let inmates know up front that you are going to follow the rules, you will do fine.

This makes be feel a bit better about considering Corrections. Like the OP I'm a petite female (5'0 98lbs). I've worked in psych for 3yrs now and I'd like to say I'm pretty good at it, especially with dealing with the behaviours and in calling ******** when patients try to take advantage. Honestly I'm more afraid of going for an interview and being denied based on my size.
