Health care advances in Cuba

According to the Associated Press as cited in the Post article, "Cuba has made recent advancements in biotechnology and exports its treatments to 40 countries around the world, raking in an estimated $100 million a year. ... In 2004, the U.S. government granted an exception to its economic embargo against Cuba and allowed a California drug company to test three cancer vaccines developed in Havana."

unfortunately it has deteriorated into a progressive versus conservative debate

Huh, I didn't notice that. Funny, because I've commented in that thread, and I'm neither a conservative nor a progressive...Nor did I see a debate.

Either way, we don't need 2 thread running at the same time about the same thing.

I heard this is a great movie. Also, that this one is not about democrat v. republican.

Did anyone hear him discussing it on Howard Stern? It was a great interview.

If you haven't seen this movie, and I have, don't judge it by previous MM work. This work is credible.

Thanks Siri! ;)

That is what I was thinking . .. . how anyone can buy what MM is selling . . .well, I think that is AMAZING.

I'm not saying we don't have problems that need solutions . . .I just don't intend to listen to MM's propaganda.

MM is showing the citizens of the USA in living color just WHAT the health care problems are, I dont nessessarily care for his other movies, but this is such an important issue , why discount the message just because its coming from someone you dont like?

time: so you think washington could handle a program this big? michael moore: ask anyone on social security if their check comes on time every month. like clockwork. and it comes through the so-called dilapidated u.s. mail. my dad’s check literally will come on the same day every month. the government has been quite good and efficient at creating a number of systems. if i tell people the administrative costs for a private health plan —advertising, p.r., executive pay —are 20% and ask them what medicare’s administrative costs are, they’ll guess 50%, 60%. the fact is, for medicare/ medicaid, it’s 3%. the last figure i read for canada’s [government] system is 1.7%.

TIME: You also speak rhapsodically about the French and Cuban systems and travel to Cuba, where you interview Che Guevara's daughter. France, Cuba, Che. Are you going out of your way to annoy the right?

Michael Moore: I give people more credit than the media and the political machine running this country do. The story line is: France, bad; France, cowards. What crime did France commit? We wouldn't have had this country without their support in the Revolution. They gave us that statue that sits out in New York Harbor. They responded immediately after 9/11. And they remain eternally grateful for what we did during World War II. As for Cuba, yes, when I've got a film crew there, they're going to show us their best. But there's a reason the World Health Organization ranks their health-care system [among] the best in the Third World and that people from Latin America come there for their health care. There's also a reason Cubans live on average a month longer than we do. I'm not trumpeting Castro or his regime. I just want to say to fellow Americans, "C'mon, we're the United States! If they can do this, we can do it.?

Why pay money to see this when we see it OURSELVES in living color? I don't need someone as dishonorable and untrustworthy as MM making any money off of me-regardless of what he is peddling at the time. I don't care if he was doing a movie on my life story!

No money from me.

I received a flyer in the mail today from the California Nurses/National Nurses Organizing Committee promoting SiCKO by Michael Moore.

It says "While they're laughing 'til it hurts, you can be there to help. Join Registered Nurses across the U.S. as we host the opening of Michael Moore's new film, SiCKO." They are inviting us to volunteer across the country to get the work out about "Guaranteed Healthcare in America".

I do think changes should be made in the way we insure our citizens, but I do not want to do it by supporting Michael Moore's propaganda.

This mailer was expensive to send out to the masses...this is what our nursing/professional associations spend our money on? I join and pay dues for the improvement of our profession, not for the support of yet another Hollywood-type, would-be political activist!

What are these associations for? What do you think about the mass-mailer?
