Condom catheters!! Getting them to stay on !!!

which ones do you use normally? the ones that are supposed to stay on with just the skinprep shtuff, or the ones with the band of 2sided cushy tape?

Crazy glue??I dunno, but one of the LPN's I work with always tapes em to the pubes...the men are less apt to pull them off that way!LOL

I don't find they work very well anyway, and half the time trying to find that ol member is like hunting for a button on a fur coat.

clean area with antibacterial soap, alcohol area, skin prep, double sided tape(the foam one) slide the cath on. attach it to the tape. follow the tape and the exterior of the cath with your fingers giving it a seal against the tape, if area stays clean it should last 4 days , change the tape every 4 days because it can become irratated on the 5th day because the tape breaks down with the oils of the skin.

Good luck cause I agree, especially in LTC, sometimes finding that little varmit is the real problem!

I am still just doing my pre-reqs, but somehow I find it hard to imagine not being able to find "that little varmit", aka the button. Please explain....at least on the anatomy that I am familiar with it is right there.

have a pt that demanded for a long time that the aides rub bagbalm on his scrotum anduse black electrical tape to secure the condom cath...

Wash, rinse, dry, and apply tincture of benzion to the skin.

I just cringe when the adhesive sticks to hair.
