hello everyone! i finally decided to purchase a computer. i love using my webtv, but it is limited to linking on certain sites, etc.

i have looked at some, but there are many to choose from.

what kind (brand) do you have or suggest. i know it depends on the price and the features, but just wanted some hints, advice, etc.

any suggestions. thanks in advance!

i bought my gateway a couple of years ago and haven't had any problems.

i bought it because:

1.gateway's reputation at the time

2. amd athlon chip (dell didn't have a model with the athlon chip and intel was being raked over the coals for manufacturing pentiums that recorded your information)

3. big monitor (21 inches)

4. speed, memory, etc. - all that other misc techno stuff :D

good luck in your research! :)

thank you!

check out the deals at costco or sam's club (if you have on near you!) my husband (an engineer) says they have some pretty good deals there. i'm not sure if they have dell but you can check!

good luck,

marci

oh by the way, we have a tiger by systemax.:)

marci, thanks to you and your husband.

BTW....consider getting a flat screen monitor...I wish I had. My hubby has one at work and it really saves on space. I will get one next time. My desk doesn't have enough space for me to barely write on!:D AND....the reason I had to call tech support was because I had a question about the Windows XP and my scanner...the scanner was not compatible with the stupid XP. I'm a real computer idiot.:D :D

Ciao 4 now,

Angie

I just recently bought a Dell and I love it. You can customize it yourself so that it has what you want and what you need. They aren't that expensive either. Plus fast delivery I ordered it on a Saturday and had it by Wednesday.

P.S Mine came with a free printer/scanner/copier all in one.

Had an IBM for 7 yrs. Just bought a Gateway and really like it. My son has a Gateway laptop and he's had some trouble with it but everything was covered and this time it's an "issue" so it will be covered also.

I went with Gateway this time because it was cheaper than a Dell and I got more features.

i will let all know what i have decided on. i really do appreciate the replies. you all are so kind, thanks!

Whatever you do, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT get a Hewlett Packard. It's a piece of TRASH, I've had mine for 1.5 years, and still have not gotten the original problem solved yet. And there's not a 1800# for tech support, it's long distance. Don't get compaq either, b\c it's now owned by HP, i've always heard Dell or Sony Vaio

I was just going to say that I love my hewlett packard. The only problem i have ver had with it was the monitor blew up. They replaced it ,no problem. If I have problems with it I just take it back to comp USA and they ship it our for me.

We have 3 Gateway's, 1 Sony, 1 Dell, and 1 Toshiba. (Yes, you counted right that's 6 puters) All have been great with little or no problems. Gateway is great for non techies as the systems are simple to configure, easy to set up and run, and have great live 24 hour support. Dell, Sony, and Toshiba are a little more cutting edge with more bells and whistles and therefore a little harder to learn at first. Consider getting a little less puter than you want so that you can get more than one. If your house is anything like mine everyone will need the puter for school or work let alone for fun. One won't do you for long!

Wow Connie and here I thought we were doing good with 3,LOL
