**2015** Compressed Nursing Programs Hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone!

Its that time of year again, and I'm already gearing up for compressed nursing applications! I figured I'd get the ball rolling so that we can all shed a little light on admissions/GPA/supplementary information we each find out, and to ask questions, to help each other through this stressful process!

I am a Kin Grad from UW, and will be applying to Western, McMaster, York, Trent and Queens accelerated nursing programs. I've enrolled as a post-grad at UW this year to pick up some pre-req's such as microbiology and philosophy for York, and a 0.5 credit psych course.

Last year I applied late March to Trent (it was the only application still open), and was accepted. However, I decided to wait another year and see if I can go to school closer to home (Waterloo). My cGPA is 76%, and last two years is 88% (this will be more helpful for comparisons once admissions decisions come around!)

So far I have learned:

- avoid taking the York microbiology course offered online - apparently it is confusing and terribly hard

- 6.0 credits and 3.0 credits are equivalent to 1.0 and 0.5 credits, respectively

- make sure you take biology 230 and 235 through Athabasca to really, really, really cover your bases (noted on the 2014 second-entry forum)

- use this chart to calculate your cGPA/GPA by equating EACH grade you have earned to the 4.0 scale, then finding the average

I'm wondering:

- what is your cGPA/GPA (not necessary, though)

- where your applying, and why

- favourite schools

- your potential supplementary application details

- what are your concerns, or questions?

Let's help each other out in the spirit of nursing!

Good luck to everyone, and hopefully I'll see you in class one day!

Tara, do you mind sharing where you found out about those offers that were sent? Did you call Western to ask them? I just don't want to get too excited or disappointed about anything unless I know for sure its a fact.

I talked to Denice from Western last week (the nursing program counsellor). I would call to double-check though... don't want anyone to be disappointed/too excited as I could have heard her wrong or something!

Are there any OUAC105 applicants out there? I've applied to UBC, McMaster and Queens but because I'm an out of province applicant I don't really know when to expect offers. I've already heard from UBC in regards to an interview but the Ontario Uni's don't do interviews... Just waiting anxiously

Has anyone heard back from UofT yet? I know the email said early April but it looks like they started sending out acceptances early last year! Good luck everyone :)!!

At another thread, several participants received their acceptance from UT thru email telling them that they will be receiving acceptance package in the following days. Their GPA is at a 3.9 out of 4.0 scale.

on another note! anyone applied to Nipissing's Scholar Practitioner Program here?

So I'll just be sitting here with my 3.39 GPA and hoping that I get in by the end of May! Does anyone know how late acceptances go for Queens (or any more deets about Queen's AST acceptances this year in general)? Thanks guys & congrats for everyone who has gotten in!!

I got accepted to Queens AST in February, my overall average is 83% and for the last year 88%

Awesome, thank you!! I believe my cGPA translates into about a 79%, and last semester I somehow managed a 92% average, so hopefully that means I'll hear back sometime this month.

Hey everyone,

So I applied to the fast-track McMaster, UWO and Dalhousie nursing programs.

Haven't heard anything yet. I'm super anxious because my cGPA isn't the best (first two years took some getting used to) but I've been working my butt off for my last two years and am hoping admissions will see my potential.

Anyone hear from these schools yet? What was your GPA like?

Thanks :)

I getting my application together for the Kent State ABSN, Im super excited about the schedule of this cohort as it really fits with my life, it is REALLY competitive though!

I just got accepted to Queens AST based on a conditional offer on April 1!
