**2015** Compressed Nursing Programs Hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone!

Its that time of year again, and I'm already gearing up for compressed nursing applications! I figured I'd get the ball rolling so that we can all shed a little light on admissions/GPA/supplementary information we each find out, and to ask questions, to help each other through this stressful process!

I am a Kin Grad from UW, and will be applying to Western, McMaster, York, Trent and Queens accelerated nursing programs. I've enrolled as a post-grad at UW this year to pick up some pre-req's such as microbiology and philosophy for York, and a 0.5 credit psych course.

Last year I applied late March to Trent (it was the only application still open), and was accepted. However, I decided to wait another year and see if I can go to school closer to home (Waterloo). My cGPA is 76%, and last two years is 88% (this will be more helpful for comparisons once admissions decisions come around!)

So far I have learned:

- avoid taking the York microbiology course offered online - apparently it is confusing and terribly hard

- 6.0 credits and 3.0 credits are equivalent to 1.0 and 0.5 credits, respectively

- make sure you take biology 230 and 235 through Athabasca to really, really, really cover your bases (noted on the 2014 second-entry forum)

- use this chart to calculate your cGPA/GPA by equating EACH grade you have earned to the 4.0 scale, then finding the average

I'm wondering:

- what is your cGPA/GPA (not necessary, though)

- where your applying, and why

- favourite schools

- your potential supplementary application details

- what are your concerns, or questions?

Let's help each other out in the spirit of nursing!

Good luck to everyone, and hopefully I'll see you in class one day!

It is working now...but it wasn't

Hey!! For all who got accepted to Queen's and have decided that will be the school, join the facebook group Queen's University AST BScN Class of 2017! Somewhere we can introduce ourselves!

Hey guys!

SO I'll just get right to it! I'm entering my final year in Honours Health Studies and Gerontology. Right now, my average is quite low. It's a 7.8 but my last 2 semesters have been almost all A or B's. Last summer, I worked as a Recreation and Restorative Nurse at a Long Term Care Home, and this summer I am a Clinical Aide at McMaster Family Practice! I have extensive volunteer in a Jewish nursing home in Hamilton, and I am trying to get into Hamilton Health Sciences to career shadow or do friendly visits. Anyway, I want to apply to U of T for the accelerated nursing program. How likely do you think this is? I know I can really pull up my average in my final year this September :)

Hi everyone.

I applied to McMaster, western, queens, trent, lakehead. I got rejections from western and queens, an alternate from trent, acceptance from 3-yr compressed lakehead, and haven't heard from Mac. I'm really struggling with whether I want to move 15 hours away to lakehead or go back to Guelph and try to raise my gap and apply to more places next year.

is there anyone here going to lakehead who knows more about the program or has any opinions about it and/or moving?

Or is there anyone else in a similar situation or who was before?

Thanks!

Also feel free to email me instead if you want it more personal ([email protected])

Hello!

What was ur average that u were able to get accepted to ALL THOSE schools!!?? :) Congrats!

Hi everyone! I am current U of T student in the second degree nursing program.

I applied last year to Trent, York, U of T, Nipissing, and UBC, and was accepted to all schools, so feel free ask me any questions you might have about any of these specific programs! I completely empathize with all of you right now as I know how stressful it can be waiting to hear back!!

I think I had a 3.75 in my final ten courses. But I think my ECs really elevated my application and got me into UBC and U of T. Prior to entering nursing I had a lot of experience working in HIV and prison research as well as, a few other research projects. I also had experience working in a rural hospital. As a current U of T nursing student I can say from experience that U of T places an emphasis on research and this is reflected in the large number of students in our year who have completed Masters programs prior to entering the program. I would recommend any new applicants to highlight their research experiences in their applications. Hope that helps! Sorry about the delayed response!

Congrats to all of you getting in!

I applied to 8 different programs haha because last year i got rejected, and i really want to get in. I applied to Trent, Ryerson, George Brown, Centennial, Georgian, Seneca, Loyalist, Mohawk!

TRENT is my top choice by far!

My CGPA is 2.43

My GPA for my last 10 courses is 3.05.

& my high school average is 85%

I know my chances are slim, but did anyone have success with a gpa around 3.05! Thanks and good luck to all of you :)

Did you get into any of the schools you applied to?

Hi, if I were to apply (to the same universities as you for nursing) this October 2016, would they look at my recent 10 courses from Sept 2015-April 2016, or Sept 2016 - April 2017, or Jan 2016 - Dec 2017 term?

Hi everyone,

I will soon be graduating with a BA in kin, and I was wondering how heavy the compressed nursing program would be, given that I don't have a huge science background. I have taken physiology and anatomy etc, but I haven't taken chemistry since grade 12. With it being compressed I am worried that there might be a very heavy workload right from the start.

If it helps to know schools I am considering Mac, Trent, and Western.

Thanks in advance!!
