  1. Plus, what is the difference between just Masters of Nursing vs. PHCNP?
  2. wctenshi posted a topic in Canada
Hi everyone, I am currently in nursing school, hoping to ultimately practice in Canada. Since this is already my second degree, I am looking into whether it would be possible to go straight from BScN to NP without the 2 years of work experience? If anyone has any experience or suggestions please post or PM me :) I would appreciate any guidance! Additional: Are you required to get a referral from a nursing manager to apply to the program, or can you apply without one?
  3. Hi all! I have applied to UOIT (University of Ontario Institute of Technology) and Ryerson for their BScN nursing programs. I would like to pursue a nursing job in a Toronto hospital and also pursue a Nurse Practitioner (Master's) degree later on. Would choosing UOIT over Ryerson affect my chances of working in a Toronto hospital or pursuing an NP degree? Since I know UOIT is not as prestigious as Ryerson, would the university offering the NP degree look down on my application?
  4. I'm planning to apply for the Centennial/Ryerson 4-year nursing program. I have already finished 3 years of undergraduate studies in science (one more year to go). My GPA so far is 2.0 (2.3 without the 2 summer school courses). The Ryerson collab program requires at least a CGPA of 2.3 for admission However, I am planning to have a CGPA of 2.7 at the end of my final year. My question is, how does centennial/ryerson calculate or look at my CGPA? Do they include summer school courses? Would they only look at my 1-3 years, or also count my final year (I will be applying in October this year - so wouldn't they NOT be able to see my final year on the transcript sent to them during application)? I also have 6+ years of hospital/clinic volunteering experience, and my GPA was affected by anxiety (clinically diagnosed) and some personal problems. What are my chances of acceptance?
  5. Hi everyone, I am planning to complete my RPN, and then continue for Ryerson's (post-diploma) bridging program to BScN. However, it states that GPA has to be above 3.0. My question is, is this only for the RPN GPA, or GPA in ALL past academic history? I completed a BSc (life sciences) with a very poor GPA (2.2), but I know I can get my RPN GPA to be above 3.0. So would they be considering only my RPN GPA or both my RPN and BSc?
  6. Hi CG93 (and other perspective applicants who are thinking of RPN), just wanted to let you know that I called Centennial and they said the English assessment is required, and it is to see what level you are at so that they know which English class to place you in :) All the best of luck in your nursing studies!
  7. Hi everyone, I am going into my 4th year of a university science program this september, and am considering applying for nursing afterwards. I would like some advice on what I should do. My CGPA (university) is 2.20 so far, while my high school percentage is 88% (all nursing pre-reqs above average). I know because of my horrible university GPA, I will not get into many nursing programs. However, I am considering 1. RPN (Centennial, Humber, George Brown), or 2. RN (Centennial-Ryerson collab) I will be writing a supplementary form discussing my extracurriculars (6+ years of volunteering and placements in hospitals), and the reason for my terrible GPA. My question is, should I even apply for the RN program (I think I have an extremely low chance of acceptance), or just apply for RPN for now (since RPN only looks at high school grades)? Could you suggest any other "easier acceptance" nursing pathways/schools for me?
  8. Hi, if I were to apply (to the same universities as you for nursing) this October 2016, would they look at my recent 10 courses from Sept 2015-April 2016, or Sept 2016 - April 2017, or Jan 2016 - Dec 2017 term?
  9. If you don't mind, could you let me know which program/school your daughter applied to that required university transcripts for RPN so I can make sure once more with admissions?
  10. Hi, but I have contacted the admissions staff and they said I can only send my high school marks for RPN (and university isn't required unless I want course exemptions). additionally, what is "upgrading"?
  11. Hey whittwhitt! I suffer from social anxiety too I even have a camp that I'll be volunteering at this weekend!! I think what helps is finding a relaxing activity. For example, I like to watch TV on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate. I find that it helps me to have relaxing activities, because when I am in situations that provoke my social anxiety, I get happier and much more confident when I realize that I can do my best in this situation, be happy, and be able to get back to my relaxing activity afterwards in the evening! Having someone to regularly talk to also helps (ie. therapist, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc). This way, whenever I do something extremely awkward/embarassing, I'll be able to vent and feel better afterwards ("no big deal")! I'm not able to help you very much in terms of career choices, but good luck :) and you can message me if you need any help dealing with anxiety! (also you should read "Let's Pretend This Never Happened" by Jenny Lawson - it's helped me a lot in battling anxiety disorder).
  12. I am applying to BScN (Ryerson, Centennial, George Brown --> really want Ryerson BScN) and PN (George Brown, Centennial) I graduated high school in 2013, with pre-reqs completed (chemistry 92, english 82, biology 88, math 82) with an average of 88-89%. However, I am in my third year of university in life sciences with a CGPA 2.2 (I messed up bad due to personal issues). What are my chances in getting accepted to the above programs? I know PN does not require university transcript (only need high school), but what about BScN (is there a chance I do not need to send them my university transcript)?

  14. I am in need of some advice/help, as I have NO experience whatsoever applying through ontariocolleges or with nursing schools. I am currently in my 3rd year of UNIVERSITY studying life sciences. I will be applying for nursing school starting this October for the September 2017 intakes. Prospectively, I will be applying to the 2-year PRACTICAL NURSING programs at: 1. Humber 2. Sheridan 4. Seneca 5. George Brown 6. Centennial My issue is that my university GPA is very very bad (2.5), while my high school average from 3 years ago is 88% with pre-requisites completed: English (U): grade 11 92%, grade 12 81% /// Math (U): grade 12 82% ///Chemistry (U): grade 12 92% /// Biology (U): grade 12 88 % Question 1) For my application to the nursing colleges (above), should I only send my HIGH SCHOOL transcript, or shall I need to also send my UNIVERSITY transcript (even with my poor GPA)? Question 2) If I do not send my university transcript, will the colleges assume I am a "mature student" and request additional testing for me? AM I a "mature student" since I am in university, or does "mature student" mean something else? ---> because I saw from George Brown's PN website: "Mature Student status (19 years of age or older) - Mature applicants are eligible to test for Mathematics, Science and English." I also saw on a forum, someone posted "[Centennial] sent me a rejection letter last month, and it turns out it was because I hadn't taken an english assessment test. This totally surprised me, because I had NO clue I needed this, with my really good gr. 11 sciences, and my grade 12 C english was 91%. I am guessing I needed to take the assessment because I was out of high school for a few years.. but I would have never known" Thank you so much!
