**2015** Compressed Nursing Programs Hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone!

Its that time of year again, and I'm already gearing up for compressed nursing applications! I figured I'd get the ball rolling so that we can all shed a little light on admissions/GPA/supplementary information we each find out, and to ask questions, to help each other through this stressful process!

I am a Kin Grad from UW, and will be applying to Western, McMaster, York, Trent and Queens accelerated nursing programs. I've enrolled as a post-grad at UW this year to pick up some pre-req's such as microbiology and philosophy for York, and a 0.5 credit psych course.

Last year I applied late March to Trent (it was the only application still open), and was accepted. However, I decided to wait another year and see if I can go to school closer to home (Waterloo). My cGPA is 76%, and last two years is 88% (this will be more helpful for comparisons once admissions decisions come around!)

So far I have learned:

- avoid taking the York microbiology course offered online - apparently it is confusing and terribly hard

- 6.0 credits and 3.0 credits are equivalent to 1.0 and 0.5 credits, respectively

- make sure you take biology 230 and 235 through Athabasca to really, really, really cover your bases (noted on the 2014 second-entry forum)

- use this chart to calculate your cGPA/GPA by equating EACH grade you have earned to the 4.0 scale, then finding the average

I'm wondering:

- what is your cGPA/GPA (not necessary, though)

- where your applying, and why

- favourite schools

- your potential supplementary application details

- what are your concerns, or questions?

Let's help each other out in the spirit of nursing!

Good luck to everyone, and hopefully I'll see you in class one day!

I just got accepted to Queens AST based on a conditional offer on April 1!

Congratulations!! I'm waiting on Queen's right now. Would you mind sharing your GPA? I thought I would have heard back by now so I'm a bit worried!

Thanks! It honestly came as a huge shock to me as it is the only acceptance I have received so far and I applied to many schools. My cGPA is around 3.29, but the last 2 years it is around 3.75. I will also have completed 5 years of undergrad this year and have multiple EC's, which I honestly think helped get my application noticed!

Goodluck!

Hey guys,

Has anyone applied to Nipissing's SP program? Does anyone know any information on how they base their admissions? Also, I have some extenuating circumstances along with a doctor's note which I included in my applications to UofT, Trent and Nipissing. Does anyone know if these schools actually consider it when reviewing applications?

I did! I really want to get in as my GPA isn't the greatest. I feel like that school is my only hope..

I've applied to all three of those schools as well. I know that UofT definitely takes extenuating circumstances into account as they had an area on the supplemental application for it. I think Nipissing does as well, I seem to remember that they said if you had any you could put it in your application. I'm not sure about Trent though since they don't have a supplemental app.

Have you heard anything back from Nipissing? I actually called them today and they said that we won't be hearing anything back for at least a month as they are currently reviewing applications. The package said mid-April though. I feel like I'm going crazy waiting..

I graduated from UofT in 2011 but I recently took some courses at Athabasca University. Would these courses be considered to be transfer credits??

Thanks!

No I haven't yet :( And I know what you mean! I've been accepted to Trent but I really want to go to school in Toronto because I can live at home then. Keeping my fingers crossed that I hear back from UofT or Nipissing soon!

on another note! anyone applied to Nipissing's Scholar Practitioner Program here?

I have! I called them today and they said that we won't be hearing back for another month at least as they are currently reviewing all applications. They are 50 spots in total.

Western just notified me they deferred my application until they receive my final grades for this semester of school, currently in a 4 year BScN and wrapping first year up with approx an 85% avg, I guess it's back to waiting

Congrats to all who have been accepted so far!

Has anyone heard back from UofT yet? On their website it says that they start making decisions this month, but someone also posted that it may have come at the end of March...

Good luck to all!
