**2015** Compressed Nursing Programs Hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone!

Its that time of year again, and I'm already gearing up for compressed nursing applications! I figured I'd get the ball rolling so that we can all shed a little light on admissions/GPA/supplementary information we each find out, and to ask questions, to help each other through this stressful process!

I am a Kin Grad from UW, and will be applying to Western, McMaster, York, Trent and Queens accelerated nursing programs. I've enrolled as a post-grad at UW this year to pick up some pre-req's such as microbiology and philosophy for York, and a 0.5 credit psych course.

Last year I applied late March to Trent (it was the only application still open), and was accepted. However, I decided to wait another year and see if I can go to school closer to home (Waterloo). My cGPA is 76%, and last two years is 88% (this will be more helpful for comparisons once admissions decisions come around!)

So far I have learned:

- avoid taking the York microbiology course offered online - apparently it is confusing and terribly hard

- 6.0 credits and 3.0 credits are equivalent to 1.0 and 0.5 credits, respectively

- make sure you take biology 230 and 235 through Athabasca to really, really, really cover your bases (noted on the 2014 second-entry forum)

- use this chart to calculate your cGPA/GPA by equating EACH grade you have earned to the 4.0 scale, then finding the average

I'm wondering:

- what is your cGPA/GPA (not necessary, though)

- where your applying, and why

- favourite schools

- your potential supplementary application details

- what are your concerns, or questions?

Let's help each other out in the spirit of nursing!

Good luck to everyone, and hopefully I'll see you in class one day!

congrats :) what are your stats?

Well I'm a Ottawa U student graduating soon with an Honors Bac in Health Sciences with a minor in psychology. Based on the weird Ottawa U scale, I have a cGPA of 7.3 (B+), but in the York Scale I have a 7.1 cGPA, and 7.9 GPA in my last 10 courses. Although I passed the requirement for U of T and York, I'm really hoping to have a chance of getting acceptance into U of T based on my extracurricular activities, but I guess we'll see. Good luck everyone!

Was accepted to York a few days ago in addition to Western.. still waiting for Mac. They really only start in a month from now - I can't help but stress since its my #1 choice by a landslide. Fingers crossed!!

GPA in last ten units was 89% and about 78% cGPA for those who are wondering.

hey how did Western reply ? email or was it on the student resource site, how did it say ? thanks!

Does anyone know how we will hear from U of T if we are accepted (e.g. email, join u of t, mail)? I'm an internal applicant and I can't seem to activate my Join U of T account. I'm worried that I'm going to miss key information from them.

For western I had an email on a Friday around 5pm, it said to check my student centre regarding my admissions. I had a package express posted to me for the Monday.

Hey! I looked through a lot of last years post and checked the email that they sent a while back. It apparently takes a while to change the status in your join U of T profile, so you will hear via email. The same email that you used to fill out your First in Nursinf application! Hope this helps :)

I got accepted into Western's compressed nursing program for 2015 on Friday, March 13! I am probably going to accept the offer because it was my first choice. I also applied to McMaster and UofT but haven't heard back from them yet.

My cGPA was about a 3.7 from undergrad and my GPA for my last 10 undergraduate courses was about a 3.67. I don't think that is very high, but I also just finished a Master's degree in Neuroscience, which I think is what got me in early.

Good luck to everyone else and I am excited to meet my fellow Western class in September!

I also got accepted to Western's compressed program, but was thinking U of T was my first choice. What aspects make Western your first choice compared to U of T? (is there something I potentially need to consider that I don't know about?)

j3dev please whats your Gpa in your las 10 credits.

I currently go to UW, which doesn't do GPA, but my average is 88%

Has anyone called Western to ask what the current percentage is that they are sending out admission to? I know people called in last year and then posted the results on this forum. I am too shy on the phone to do it.

I heard it was 88%

Does anyone know if Western will be sending out offers on a rolling basis, or starting mid-May? I know that 29 early offers went out to students with 88%+. I'm at 87.1% so just wondering if I should expect a decision soon...

Cheers,

Tara
