Hi everyone, I'm starting this thread so we can share information about the CAS, the program we should pass in order to gain registration in Queensland, Australia. I have passed all four components of the CAS challenge test and it can be done with hard work and a lot of prayer, you do not really need agencies for this. For starters, the challenge test is a 70 item test with multiple choice questions, occasionally with identification items also.

Thanks Joeturtle!

joeturtle...me too..:coollook:

yes im with you, IELTS is all money making, in fact a lot of australians dont even know how to spell and their grammar sometimes are wrong, their handwriting are even worst...oh well, we cant do anything about it.

did you passed the 1 day part b challenge test?

and if the part a is a multiple choice exam, do we have to choose only one answer or answer as many correct answers as you can?just like nclex...ty

Just because you see people who do not spell or do proper grammar doesn't mean the country should let things slide. Yes I am British but I do have some issues with some spellings but really what the country is doing is ensuring that you, who may not have English as a first language, can communicate appropriately with the citizens of said country. Same requirement if going to a foreign country where English isn't first language you would be expected to learn and be fluent in their language before they will allow you to work. Safety is first

Its on pages one and two of this forum, posted by me and ciao. :wink2:

yep. i agree. i think that's the purpose of ielts. the country has to set some standards too. For their safety and of course to ensure quality.

oz's are not exempted to the language test, one friend of mine, she's an oz-rn, was required to take the ielts when she applied for uk registration. ielts is not merely a measure of an individual's fluency in speaking or writing the english language or the ability to express one's self in english but more importantly is a measure of an individual's ability to grasp and comprehend concepts, thoughts or ideas. so even individuals whose first language is english are likewise subjected to the language test. :twocents:

no day but today!!!

hi, joeturtle.where did you get the CAS test? can it be done here in the Philippines? Or do I need to go to Australia to do them?

Specializes in Critical Care / Emergency.

I got my Challenge Test at CQU Sydney. I think in the Philippines it is being conducted at IDP Makati.

do not sit for the exam without reading the recommended books, because everything is book based. My exam was more of short answer questions - short but concise and direct to the point. The multiple choice are very tricky.

If you are sitting for the 1 day Part B test, and have problems in accomodation, try booking at queenslandholidays.com.au

It would be a wise idea to be at your test venue 2 days before your exam to give you time in knowing the transport system etc.

Guys, if you need those recommended books and cannot buy it because of cost. (One book here costs around $68 plus shipping to Phils, would cost you around $100 per book) Send me an email, I will direct you to a person who has those resource books in the Phils.

The Queensland Nursing Council just released a memo dated today 06 March 2009 stating that effective today all IELTS band score the Councill will accept are 7 and above. It stated there that all pending applications will have to repeat IELTS if they obtained less than 7 in any of the components

Check their website for updates.

That is a very helpful information. thank you.

I am considering of signing in for a consultancy, ASNC/ASNM Consultancy. I'll be paying around AUD9000... now that i've browsed on QNC... it is way much cheaper to apply directly rather than signing in for a consultancy.

The only advantage that I can get from this consultancy is that they will assist us in the application, provide review materials (which are very hard to find here in the philippines), airfare and at least 4 weeks housing accomodation in australia while taking the part B exam, arrange for our sponsorship (they said they will find an employer for us), and relocation.

I'll think about probable options.... and having those review materials would be a very great help. here's my email add:

Many Thanks! :)

We must understand that agencies need to thrive as a business by charging heaps of money to its clients.

But, as far as I know, it will only take inititiative to process your own application. This will surely save you a lot of money. Many nurses pass thru an agency because they do not know the steps/ how to. Everything is in the net, you can email these offices/boards/organizations.

Instead of paying 9thousand dolllars, that is on top of what you have to pay when you fail the modules, another 2thousand dollars per module, try to compute the cost for individual application.

Of course all of us have different resources and initiatives, but taking into my account, I only paid a total of $980 until I got my license (that is inclusive of exam costs - QNC appication is about $149)

Good luck

""" Agencies arrange for our sponsorship (they said they will find an employer for us), and relocation"""

- - - - - - This is not a big deal, once you have your License, most hospitals will be able to sponsor, some have even facilities for accomodation. Again, the Internet is a powerful tool, search the Queensland Dept of Health and all tertiary hospitals in queensland are listed there. While you are doing your clinicals, write them already a letter, so when you get your license everything will work out just fine for you. A step ahead with your application is always better.
