Hi everyone, I'm starting this thread so we can share information about the CAS, the program we should pass in order to gain registration in Queensland, Australia. I have passed all four components of the CAS challenge test and it can be done with hard work and a lot of prayer, you do not really need agencies for this. For starters, the challenge test is a 70 item test with multiple choice questions, occasionally with identification items also.

Assessment takes 3 months... thats a relief... i submitted december but until now i still do not have one... well i should also take into account the december Christmas break... I pray i get my confirmation this month:wink2:

Hi joeturtle, I can only imagine how anxious you are as the exam is very near. I am not familiar with the rates here but I'm certain that hotels are very expensive. Do you know which facility will you have the part B exam? I heard that backpackers accommodation are the way to go when budget is tight. Maybe you can search in http://www.ourbrisbane.com or http://www.flightcenter.com.au they usually show the best deals when it comes to visitors' needs.

Uhhmm..I didn't do the 1 day clinical test or part B of the challenge test, what I did was a 1 month clinical placement. :D

The Australian health care system is made up of a number of interdependent components including three levels of government, health care professionals and other health workers, funding bodies and insurers, private health care providers, charitable and religious organisations and community groups.

Some key concepts you will need to understand in order to appreciate how the Australian health care system operates include:

* Health Care Funding Arrangements Public & Private

* Waiting Lists Elective Surgery

* Regulation of Health Professionals

* Health Insurance Medicare

Knowledge required by Queensland Nursing Council if you want to skip the Migrant Bridging Course and just take the Challenge Test.

You will need to know at least:

3. How health care is funded in Australia.

4. The role that private health care providers, charitable and religious organisations and community providers play in health care in Queensland.

5. The rights of health care consumers.

6. The processes that exist to protect health consumer rights in Queensland.

7. The foundation principles of primary health care.

Is there a link that will show a guide to topics we should read and study?

Oh my...does that mean that not everyone is given a chance to take the CAS exam? That there is a chance you won't be allowed to take it, and will be advised to do the very expensive bridging course in Australia? huhuhu...I do hope my credentials will be considered for CAS exams...

Oh, and yes, NTS recently conducted a seminar here in Cebu. They are readily offering contracts of employment with their partner hospitals there in Queensland for those who are already registered with the QNC, or those eligible to work there already (e.g., those US-RN's, etc, etc.)

I think US-RN's here refer to RN's who got their nursing degree in the States. :twocents:

I thought Bridging program and CAS are equivalent... Its just that the CAS program we know... online theoretical and actual clinical in OZ is only offered in queensland. In other states you really have to go throught the 2-3 months bridging program.

cas is a bridging program offered only in qld. cquniversity is the only accredited provider of the cas program. they developed this program mainly as pathway for oz registered nurses who wants to go back to practice, it's a sort of re-orientation/ re-training program, oz-rns who have not practiced for the last 5 years cannot renew their license and needs to undertake this program if they want to gain back their license. the cas program was introduced to foreign trained nurses as it also satisfies qnc registration requirements. cas operates in a flexible-distance-learning program, i think qnc and cqu did this to encourage oz-rn's to go back to practice as it makes re-training for renewal of license much easier and less costly. when applied to foreign trained nurses or overseas nurses, they benefit more as it will save them a lot of money. they don't have to spend for bp fees and accomodation expenses for 2-3 months.

Specializes in ICU.
I'm taking part B this april and yes, just like NCLEX, it is tricky so adequate preparation is a must.

Hi! Thanks for all the info you are sharing here. You, indeed, are a BIG help to us.:)

I believe there's a limited number of review centers for CAS here in Phils but there's a lot of NCLEX review centers and materials available. Would you suggest I review for NCLEX instead? Did you previously review for NCLEX and actually did take the NCLEX? I hope you'd have time to answer my Qs. Thank you so much in advance. Good luck to us, esp to you. :-)
