Hi everyone, I'm starting this thread so we can share information about the CAS, the program we should pass in order to gain registration in Queensland, Australia. I have passed all four components of the CAS challenge test and it can be done with hard work and a lot of prayer, you do not really need agencies for this. For starters, the challenge test is a 70 item test with multiple choice questions, occasionally with identification items also.
that's good! such a very optimistic person. :) we'll i just hope all of us in this thread will be able to meet each other in QLD. although this is just a thread but, hey, everyone here are very much willing to help. If we're all housemates, i mean, building-mates :) it would be a heck uvva fun! :) Cheers to our brighter future in QLD as RNs! :)
MORE IELTS TIPS:
Well, first of all I am a second courser. My first course is Journalism, so it probably contributed to my good IELTS scores. Probably lang naman harharhar.
READING: I have always enjoyed reading so I suggest that anyone who wants to get good IELTS scores start reading too. I am not suggesting that you read deep, mind-numbing, and sleep-inducing works like War and Peace, or Les Miserables. Just read any English-language book, novel, or article of your preference. If you want to read Harry Potter, Twilight, Mills and Boon, Sweet Velley twins, or whatever, then go ahead! Have fun and practice your English at the same time. You can even grab a copy of Playboy or Penthouse...as long as you also read the ARTICLES and not just look at the PICTURES hahaha (I might be banned from this forum...eeeeeeek!!). Reading could be a fun activity, just give it a try.
WRITING: The thing about IELTS is that, sometimes it does not really reflect the true English skills of a person. I mean, I wrote articles in the Inquirer and (in all humility), I am a published novelist. But I got a writing score of 8.0?!?! Which is quite funny. When I got my IELTS results, I just laughed at my Writing score because I was expecting something higher. Low listening scores, that I can readily accept. But a Writing score that is anything less than perfect?! Puh-leaze. I honestly do not know their basis for the 8.0. But I thanked the folks at IELTS for making me laugh. I am confident with my Writing skills, so I did not take it personally (well, almost...). In front of you is hard proof that I write okay. My writing is okay, right? RIGHT???
LISTENING: I have to admit that when I took my IELTS I was suffering a huge hangover because I got drunk the night before. Obviously, my Listening really suffered. Which really made the situation worse because I was never a good listener in the first place. So here is my tip: do not party or drink the night before an exam. Period.
SPEAKING: For me, this part is the most fun of all. I realized that my English seems to be much more natural and free-flowing if I talk to foreigners. When I talk English to fellow Filipinos, I have to admit that it feels...fake. Unnatural. But when I speak to foreigners, it really comes out naturally. I don't know, it's just the way I feel about it, I guess.
When I go to clubs and the kids start talking to me in English, I really reply to them in Filipino. It's like...hello...keep it real man. We are both Filipinos so we should talk in Filipino. But when foreigners speak to me, I realize that my English is much more natural. So I was really lucky that my examiner was a nice lady from Her Majesty's Island.
So here is my tip: Try imagining that your examiner is Queen Elizabeth II. You will discover that you are suddenly speaking in crisp, aristocratic British English. Just kidding!
Hi everyone! I emailed QNC wether hospital experience is needed, this is their reply:
All applications from internationally trained nurses are assessed on an individual basis. They are required to complete a QNC1 application form, provide the documentation included in the checklist for overseas applications and pay the relevant application fee and overseas assessment fee.
This is specifically from Registration Officer (Overseas). QNC. So I guess they're still not particular with regards hospital experience.. good luck to all of us!!

BTW...I hope to make lots of in this thread so that if I become an RN in Queensland and I start working in Queensland, I would't have any trouble looking for flatmates so we can share the rent!!! Like I said, I do not know anybody in Australia so I am planning ahead.
Guys, do your best to pass the CAS exams so we can start working in Queensland...and so that I will have lots of potential flatmates to choose from. Hehehe. I am a fun housemate *kindat*
