Hi everyone, I'm starting this thread so we can share information about the CAS, the program we should pass in order to gain registration in Queensland, Australia. I have passed all four components of the CAS challenge test and it can be done with hard work and a lot of prayer, you do not really need agencies for this. For starters, the challenge test is a 70 item test with multiple choice questions, occasionally with identification items also.
hmm i'm done with ielts but afraid that it will expire soon.. for those who already got their eligibility for CAS, is working experience important? because i only had a 3-month training and another 2 months as a volunteer nurse.. do you think i can be eligible for CAS? thanks guys..
Hi Godhezz, CAS has nothing to do with your experience. It is the QNC who evaluates your clinical experience. I knew of several nurses who does not have any clinical experience but was able to proceed with CAS and eventually got registered. QNC always assesses individual on a case to case basis.
As per protocol of this forum, you can send me a private message at allnurses.com.

ive submitted my application middle of november...but hey, dont ya forget we had christmas and new year vacation...and im an interstate applicant...im a migrant, presently living here in victoria, aust....so thats why my application was a bit faster than yours. :) ( and i also rang qnc, every now and then, i hope i didnt annoy them).
i even made a second Certification of evidence of recency of practice as the qnc was not satisfied with what i have written in there.
oh well, youre still lucky, because you already have submitted your ielts...me? i still have to pass it...
ill be having my ielts in two months time.

Ryan, go to your local library, all libraries have an online system. If that library does not carry the books, tell them you want to have an Inter-Branch Loan, they have an online system that checks automatically who has it.
Just like when I required a book, I went to Fairfield City Library, they dont have the book, I asked them to check with other libraries online - you can wait for that - they found 20 libraries who has that book, I filled out a form and requested it, takes about 2 weeks, once it arrives at your local library, they will write you a letter. You can loan the books for up to 3 months

Ryan, here it is. It takes time before you get the book. File it as early as you can. Thats one thing good with all our library here, everything is free, even inter branch loan, we dont have to pay for anything. :)

Ryan, we can only exert as much effort as we can to obtain these books.
If you need CD's, then pay for it. I suppose you are working, paying a few penny will not hurt your pocket. If you are really enthusiastic to get these books, get them at ebay.com.au you'll be able to save more. I got those books at ebay, it helped me a lot passing the 4 components of the exam. You are already here in Australia where there are endless possibilities, think about Filipino nurses who are still in the Philippines who is having a big problem to get these books. Sometimes just look on your horizon, and youll see a bright light in front of you

true!
thanks
To DolcevitaRN: You were asked to pass an NBI clearance? Sorry but I find it a bit weird. Is that a requirement for all applicants, or just you? hehehe.
To all those who need IELTS tips: I got good IELTS scores so I think I do have the right to share some tips. My experience with the IELTS is that the listening part is the trickiest (My mom and my girlfriend grabbed that opportunity to tell me I was never much of a good listener anyway). I got my lowest score in Listening, which is 7.5. Writing I got 8.0. Both Reading and Speaking, I got 9.0
So...be careful with the listening part. Focus and pay attention to the recordings. As for the Reading, I was lucky because I really liked the article which we were required to read, something about happiness. It was a good article, enjoyable to read. As for the Speaking, I am also lucky because the examiner was a nice old lady from Britain, and we spent the speaking part of the exam just having a natural, free-flowing conversation. Nothing too formal or too "by-the-rules-of-grammar" or too stiff. We just talked.
