Hi everyone, I'm starting this thread so we can share information about the CAS, the program we should pass in order to gain registration in Queensland, Australia. I have passed all four components of the CAS challenge test and it can be done with hard work and a lot of prayer, you do not really need agencies for this. For starters, the challenge test is a 70 item test with multiple choice questions, occasionally with identification items also.
By the way...the assessment is taking soooo looong....I passed my application last January 7 and I haven't received the results yet. It was complete:, TOR, work certificates, IELTS scores and License verification straight from the testing center and PRC, the works. Why is it taking so long?
I heard Canada is very open right now, some say much more open than Australia. There are lots of agencies that offer excellent job opportunities and sponsorships for Filipino nurses (you do not even have to pay for anything). So I am being patient and holding myself back from accepting an offer from Canadian employers because my Australia application is still active. But it is taking so long...argh...
To DolcevitaRN: You were asked to pass an NBI clearance? Sorry but I find it a bit weird. Is that a requirement for all applicants, or just you? hehehe. To all those who need IELTS tips: I got good IELTS scores so I think I do have the right to share some tips. My experience with the IELTS is that the listening part is the trickiest (My mom and my girlfriend grabbed that opportunity to tell me I was never much of a good listener anyway). I got my lowest score in Listening, which is 7.5. Writing I got 8.0. Both Reading and Speaking, I got 9.0
So...be careful with the listening part. Focus and pay attention to the recordings. As for the Reading, I was lucky because I really liked the article which we were required to read, something about happiness. It was a good article, enjoyable to read. As for the Speaking, I am also lucky because the examiner was a nice old lady from Britain, and we spent the speaking part of the exam just having a natural, free-flowing conversation. Nothing too formal or too "by-the-rules-of-grammar" or too stiff. We just talked.
why you guys have got good scores in reading? do you find it very easy? why i find it difficult?
any techniques on how to answer the reading component of the ielts...? please...thanks

You submitted yours January... give more or less 3 months then probably April you will get it.
Just be patient... well there is no harm applying in canada too... pick the best offer. Both Australia and Canada are in the top 5 of best place to live.
hi Rosscleofe, can you give me advice on IELTS exam. I took the exam a month ago but unfortunately I got low scores in Reading and Writing, both 6.5,which made me not qualified for Australia. I am planning to retake it again but I need to prepare harder. What tips can you give me in Writing part? How about it reading? The reading material when I took the exam was not my interest thats why I find it hard looking for answers. Do you read all the passages or just look for key words?
BTW, can you also recommend agencies for Canada.. Its my second option. In that route, I don't need to retake the IELTS.

same question here...i find the reading test difficult...hope somebody can give us test taking techniques...
Hi there,
For the reading part of IELTS, I suggest you practice skim reading. You look at key words while reading the whole article rapidly. This will save you time when you will search for the answers later, when you find the particular part that contains the answer, that is the time you read that part carefully. Most people who score low on the reading part do so because they run out of time in searching for the answers from a relatively long article.

true! my friend failed the ielts because he run out of time looking for the answers. its not that he didnt understand the texts, its just that he read the long texts thoroughly until the time was almost up, and he is still looking for the answers.
In reading it is not how you understand the topic but how you can find answers fastest... it is possible to answer everything without even reading the whole passage..
skimming is an appropriate approach... another way is to read the questions first before answering. look for key words too.
I hope this helps too.
I cant quite recall my IELTS review but here's some tips.
Visit writefix.com to learn more about the writing format.
Check out the powerpoint presentation that presents arguments and opinions.
You can also search IELTS in youtube and there are many videos that can help you in your review.
With regards to reading I agree with dolcevita... I also followed this rule..
read the questions first them skim thru the reading material and encircle the key words in your booklet.
But someties keywords can be tricky for example in the question it says
"body of water" but in the reading material it would say ocean. So you really have to understand and know what you are looking for. They dont provide the exact words for you as the answer you need to find relations.
Practice ! Practice! Practice! and time yourself ..
And if you need more materials for review / tips/ websites/ just pm me your email add and i can email them to you :)
Good luck and I hope this helps:D

To anyone who could help: PLEASE SEND ME SOME BOOKS!!! I am desperate here, I really need to get my hands on those freakin books. I tried ebay like Mr Kowalska said, but some of the recommended books are not available even through ebay.
The only materials I am using now are info sheets from the QNC website. I am scrounging every bit of additional information in the web, and let me tell you, the bits and pieces are realy small, sometimes incomplete, and hard to find most of the time. I am scratching every nook and cranny of the Internet, and the info I was able to gather is still insufficient.
To anyone who can help me with those books, please contact me or leave me a private message. Or leave me a message at Friendster, search for Ross Anthony Cleofe. I am willing to buy your books at exorbitant rates, just let me get my hands on them! To Mr Kowalska, is it possible for me to just buy your books? Instead of ebay, I can just buy the books straight from you, right? Right?!?!
...Or you could just lend them to me and I will return them to you after I finish the exams. I promise to take good care of them hehehe. I will return them to you personally, when I am already in Queensland (naks!)
I do not know anyone in Australia, friend or family or whatever. Nobody can provide me with assistance, not even a freakin kangaroo. So to all you good-hearted people out there, please let me have your books.
I believe in good karma...if you give away positive energies, positive energies will also gravitate towards you. So please share share share!
