does anyone have any input or advice on this subject? i'm going to apply to both this fall. my cc has hundreds of entries but only 30 get in and alot of gals have to wait 2 and 3 years to even get in and i dont' want to wait that long at all. a private college is on my mind but is very costly, i'm talking $18,000.00. that is scary money, but i'd be assured to get in and 15 students to 1 intructor ratio. please any & all advice is welcome.

thanks a bunch,

apply and pray, what God has for you, it's for you!! I applied to my cc's nursing program. there were 300 seats and 1000 applicants, I got a seat!!! with the bare minimum. Pray and apply. Good luck and God Bless

YES YES..thank you..its what i'll do I'll apply for both and let God choose where i'm to go...

where are you applying? i'm in "sunny cali" too!

I am in Pittsbrugh Pa

I believe faith and medicine goes hand in hand and if you keep God first in your life, EVERYTHING will fall in place. He will make a place for you when others say no. I am a witness. When I went to register for my classes, the nursing registeror told me I barely made it in and I told her God had my back, He knows what I want and need and He supplies it.

There is much more to consider when making your choice. The CC in my area is half the cost of the private school. At the CC, the classes are huge and many people fail out during the program. At the private school, we had very small class sizes and loads of individual attention. We had double the clinical hours of the CC (very important!!), and we have had an NCLEX pass rate of 100% for the past few years. Private schools are also much more likely to have scholarship money to help you pay for school. Do your research before making a decision!!

here is what i would consider:

the wait for the cc is going to be 2 to 3 years, and then 2 years for the program, but you would probably graduate with little to no debt.

if you get into the private school, your minimum debt when you graduate will be over $36,000 b/c you'll have books also.

ask yourself: can you pay off $36,000 in 5 years? (which is the amount of time at the cc with both the wait and the program)

if you can't, it's actually cheaper to wait and not have the stress.

Hey there! I'm originally from Stockton. Are you applying to Delta's program? They have an awesome reputation! They actually base their acceptance on GPA, I believe. I think you should at least try to apply any place you are even thinking about going. The more apps out there...the better! I will apply there this fall too (along with 6 other schools). Where else are you applying?

Good luck!

Yes DELTA, I've done all my prerequisites there. I cannot leave the Stockton area becuause my husband already works out of town and I have 3 children that if while in school had a need I should be closer by. Since you are from Stockton you know that there arent' many choices within the county. August 1st I will pick up my prerequisite verification form and turn it in, I'm excited and nervous. As far as the private school is a new school in town called Healthcare College of California on North El Dorado St. I called Sacramento to teh Board of Vocational Nursing to ask specifically about this newer school and she said she knew the director and it is a "well put together" school, an accredited school. She told me how they are on top of things over there. Still though with it being fairly new (2years) its scary to dish out $18,000. I'm not doing the ADN program at Delta, I'm going for my LVN. It is done on lottery, 200-applicants only 30 get in and no waitlist is maintained. Let me know about what you're doing ok?

Amy

Why not the ADN program as well? I live in Davis now so I'm applying to the CC's in Sacramento (American River and Sacramento City), Solano CC, Woodland CC, Sierra College (in Rocklin) and Samuel Merritt (Oakland). Sac City would only be a 45 minute (or less) drive for you. Merced, Modesto, and Turlock all have programs too.

I would apply to the private school too. Even though it is newer accredation isn't an easy process. At least, if you apply you have the choice of accepting or declining once you make up your mind. The more options you have I think the better decision you'll make. Research the school more too. Maybe someone on here has gone there!
