I agree, I would be concerned about a 74% pass rate. My school also had a 98-99% pass rate on the first attempt. You want a school that is going to prepare you the best to pass nclex, since that is the ultimate goal in getting through nursing school. Have you looked at any other colleges in your area? I would research a few if you can.
Thanks folks, I just realized something though, I am sure these pass rates vary from year to year and this is only from 2007, the community college is supposed to be 4th in the nation!!
Its always been good from what I hear so maybe this was just a bad year?? I am going to find out and ask for a history of pass rates this week so I can figure this out for sure.
is this community college even accedited?
lol! there is a cc some distance from where i live and attend school with a 60% pass rate for two years in a row. they are still accredited. apparently the state bon figured that they had limited resources and so they were given more money to improve.

That sounds fishy. What is their source for that? Community colleges can be good or bad. The CC I went to had a 100% pass rate for the NCLEX for the previous couple of years prior to my graduation. I found out why after I started nursing school. They pretty much taught towards the NCLEX. That doesn't necessarily make it a better program but it does mean that the students will be prepared to pass the test after they graduate. I would be really leery of a school with such a low pass rate.

That probably explains why some of the nurses we work with sure do not seem fit for the job. Passing NCLEX is one thing but it doesn't seem to weed out those that shouldn't earn that title. Those nurses are very textbook and having trouble applying the knowledge to the real world. It can be pretty scary. So many good nurses seem to be weeded out in nursing school and those that are NCLEX smart get through but the public becomes a victim in the process. There is something wrong with this picture.

That I am about to attend was 74% for 2007 grads., should I be concerned about this?
