Thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread for prospective applicants to Columbia's ETP program starting Summer 2011. I was going to apply last year but passed on it in favor of working for another year.
Applications are due November 15, 2010! Right around the corner ...
Anyone else preparing for this also?
can i just remind everyone not to post names of contacts and instructors on their nursing course or at their nursing school as per terms of service
please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.
Kerry and other waitlist folks, farful is correct. Midwifery and Anesthesia set their cohorts and (supposedly) don't accept off the waitlist. That said, people do come off the waitlist. If you have questions about timing I'd call the office, they have the most up to date info on that and ask. They are human and realize everyone is on edge just wants to know.
As far as I know, Anesthesia also doesn't let anyone switch into their program from the general ETP class. Even if a spot opens up I believe the ETP student has to withdraw from their masters spot and then apply again to get into the anesthesia program. Not really as crazy as it sounds because anesthesia requires all students to do a "step out" year or two in ICU. It's required work experience by the licensing board.
As for midwifery, they may accept a current student if someone drops out of the set midwifery cohort (it happens). They make you apply though with another essay to the midwifery program director as well as a few other steps having to do with birth experience, meetings etc. I hope this is not discouraging because...where there is a will, there is a way!
Kerry, check out the neonatal requirements on the website. Not sure if you are aware but neonatal is another program that requires "step out" NICU work. Although, I have to say...in my clinicals NICU is absolutely fascinating. I saw a 23 week preemie the other day. Amazing.
Hey everyone. Congrats to all of those who were accepted and condolences to the rest. I was waitlisted for the Anesthesia track. I must say that reading the posts regarding the Midwifery and Anesthesia waitlist hopefuls was a little disheartening, but not entirely unexpected. I think my GRE did me in. I'm considering LIU part-time as a backup. What is everyone else doing as a backup?
Hi all, first post here for me. Just wanted to say congrats to everyone who got in. I got admitted to the ETP program for Peds NP. Also got in for Peds NP at UPenn as well. If anyone can offer any insight for both schools and their respective programs that would be much appreciated. I read through some of the previous pages about some complaints over the Columbia ETP program but never really found what the complaints were really about. Can someone clarify for me?
Thanks in advance, again, congrats to all and good luck! I am very excited to start a whole new adventure in my life. :)

I hope so too! Columbia is my first choice. I applied for FNP, but it is very popular apparently, so I am uneasy about my chances. Nevertheless, I am very hopeful.
