Columbia University ETP 2011

Published

Thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread for prospective applicants to Columbia's ETP program starting Summer 2011. I was going to apply last year but passed on it in favor of working for another year.

Applications are due November 15, 2010! Right around the corner ...

Anyone else preparing for this also? :clown:

Hello everyone! Cannot wait to meet you all at new students day. Does anyone know when we will get the time/schedule for March 4th? I am trying to book a hotel for my family and I to come up from Baltimore, MD and get a good feel for the school.. :) Need to convince them I will be just fine in the big city! Any info would be helpful!

Just spoke with someone at Columbia.... Midwifery cohort is not taking ANYONE this yr for ETP according to the person I spoke to. So for those of us in midwifery wait listed feel really good I guess? Ugggg.... this just got a lot more sticky.

I was accepted into the Midwifery cohort. I start the ETP year in June. I wonder why someone told you that...

It was *******. Are you already a nurse ?

It was *******. Are you already a nurse ?

Nope, I'm not a nurse. I was accepted into the Entry to Practice BS/MS in Midwifery program. I got my letter through the portal on Monday.

(This is just a guess: )

Every year, the midwifery (and anesthesia) program selects certain number of students to their respective programs. They have already selected their class for midwifery.

Columbia allows you to switch in and out of specialties, with the exception of switching into midwifery and anesthesia.

I think there was a slight misunderstanding between you and Jose.

Okay, I just spoke with Mr.**** again. He clarified, and it's a little tricky. Noone on the waitlist will be accepted into the midwifery program period. That said we do have the option of selecting another field, and revisiting the issue with the midwifery commitee the end of next year, if we are in fact removed from the wait list and put into the general pool. Ugggggg, even more sticky. I still want Columbia more than I want to breathe right now.

Hey KerryR,

When you talked to ****** did he provide you any more advice about the wait-list? Like how many people are on it and on average how many people they choose from the wait-list each year? The unknown is killing me..I wish we had a better idea about the wait-list process.

Yes and no. Sorry :( He used the phrase "a fair number of students" get accepted into another program, however he strongly cautioned that midwifery was pretty much untouchable after the cohort had been set, that there were acceptations but that was not typical.

Thank you kerryR for that information and asking Jose. For those on the wait-list, what is everyone going for?

KerryR- Thanks for the info, hopefully we will all be accepted off the wait-list. I haven't been accepted anywhere else yet :(, so I am wishing on some lucky stars that this wait-list pulls through for me!

Annie3289- I applied for Adult/Oncology Nurse Practitioner
