Columbia University ETP 2011

Published

Thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread for prospective applicants to Columbia's ETP program starting Summer 2011. I was going to apply last year but passed on it in favor of working for another year.

Applications are due November 15, 2010! Right around the corner ...

Anyone else preparing for this also? :clown:

I third that lol, also wait-listed..wondering how many people are taken from the wait-list. I applied for Adult/Oncology NP. I wonder how many people are actually on the wait-list and how they go about accepting people off the list? Any help or advice would be awesome!

Hey Everyone!

I'm a little late to this thread but was accepted into the Women's Health NP Track. Columbia was my first choice and I am SO excited to start. What's everyone thinking about housing?! I live in Westchester but am planning to live near campus (though don't know where or with whom). Can't wait to meet everyone! Good luck to those on the wait list :)

xxx,

Ash

I found this in an old Columbia ETP thread.

"For people looking for housing: avoid living somewhere that would require you to take the 1 train to commute. The elevator at 168th street sucks."

Does anyone have advice on where is better to live?

well, all elevators in the nyc subway system suck and smell horrible, nothing you can really do about it... i always take the stairs ...

on another note, is anybody considering ETP program just because of the whole 2015 DNP thing even though they got accepted to a substantially cheaper program?

Congrats to everyone who got in! Quick question for those who got in, is there a specific time when you have to let Columbia know of your decision? Just wondering since I am on the wait-list and trying to get an idea of how long it may be until us wait-listers know if any seats open. Thanks everyone and congrats again!

LOL! I'm pretty sure that was my post. The A train also stops at 168th. You don't have to use the elevator to exit the A train. A lot of people like living in Hudson Heights, which is the neighborhood north of 181st St. and E. of Bway. It's only 2 stops on the A train, lots of buses, and also walkable.

Ahhhhh!!!!!! Just got into Columbia's school of public health for health promotion, as well! Did anyone else apply for the MSN/MPH dual degree?

Hi KKandes,

They said that they needed for us to reply with a decision by March 21. What they didnt tell us is when we would hear about our financial package ( and I assume that a whole bunch of people will be more willing to say yes or no as soon as they know what the price is).

Congrats, Fried Zucchini! In hindsight, I wish I'd applied to a dual degree program here and at Hopkins. :( Did you apply to the BSN/MSN/MPH at JHU as well?

C.

Thanks, Cartwheel! I did apply to the ABSN/MSN/MPH at Hopkins and also to the Yale GEPN program and Yale Public Health. Still waiting on the other decisions, but would be very happy going to Columbia.

You can always apply for public health or social work, etc. next year and still do a dual degree, since it starts at the masters level, i.e. after you do the BSN year.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! I was also just accepted for psych/mental health NP. Add me to the list of people who would love to hear from a current ETP student about the psych program specifically -- I'll also be attending accepted students' day on the 4th, so I look forward to meeting some of you there!

Thanks Yogaseli for the info!!!!
