Thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread for prospective applicants to Columbia's ETP program starting Summer 2011. I was going to apply last year but passed on it in favor of working for another year.
Applications are due November 15, 2010! Right around the corner ...
Anyone else preparing for this also?
Eliza,
I am unsure -- the way it worked for my class was they accepted a certain number of ETP students into anesthesia (5-10 usually so 7 sounds right) -- and that subset of ETP students does not need to reapply for a spot after working in an ICU, ie the spot is saved for us. However, they certainly could change things for future classes if the program so desired. You'd have to clarify that with the school. The only students who need to reapply to my knowledge, are the subset who get into ETP but NOT the anesthesia track, but still want to do anesthesia anyway. Maybe they were referring to that?

do you have any input or opinions on sgmaygeorge's questions below? i am considering moving to ny from ca to attend the etp anesthesia program there. the program requires students to find an icu job after completing the first year (bsn portion) of the etp program.
i was wondering if any current students (post etp) could comment on the job market in nyc for new nurses and a salary range that a new rn in nyc can expect? also how much does having a bsn matter --*i think a lot of us are also looking at other direct entry schools that do not award the bsn.
i ask because i think a lot of us are planning on working as an rn (either stepping out for a full year or concurrently with the masters portion) as a way to offset the crazy cost as well as gain experience.
to etp alums:
i was wondering if anyone would respond to this thread with their thoughts on the job market for working as an rn after the first year (i was accepted early decision and i hope to work as an rn and go to school for the np component at the same time during years 2 and 3). i spent the morning calling a number of the major hospitals in the nyc area to ask them about general job prospects. i was pretty much told that most new nurse residency programs and new grad nurse positions hire through a hospital's nurse extern program (which etp students would not be eligible for because of the timing of the program). i am very worried that i'll be stuck in a position of not being able to get a job as an rn after the first year because i dont have any experience yet.
Hi Everyone,I have been keeping up with the posts, and decided to add my own! I was accepted into the 2010 ETP program & FNP specialty, and had to defer attendance for a year because of my current job. I just wanted to wish everyone good luck with their applications, and say that I look forward to meeting many of you in NY this coming June!
Were there specific rules for being allowed to defer your acceptance? I'm currently an ETP 2015 prospect.

Hi,
I am currently applying to the Columbia ETP for Nurse Anesthesia. I went to the information session and they had mentioned that the CRNA Program only holds 7 seats. This concerns me because I was notified that after ICU experience, I would have to RE-apply to the CRNA Program. I thought the ETP was supposed to guide you directly into the program, without having to re-apply.
Thanks!
