Columbia University ETP 2011

Thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread for prospective applicants to Columbia's ETP program starting Summer 2011. I was going to apply last year but passed on it in favor of working for another year.

Applications are due November 15, 2010! Right around the corner ...

Anyone else preparing for this also? :clown:

Also, I believe Yale has a much smaller undergraduate class, but in the Master's psych program the sizes are comparable.

whoops, left that comment in the wrong place and cant' delete.

I am direct entry about to graduate from PMHNP program.

How is everyone able to afford this? Just curious - I'm going to Rochester's accelerated program and it's so expensive! Most people are taking out 60-70K in loans - same for Columbia?

Simple. Either 1 of 2 scenarios for each person:

1) Some people are more wealthy than others. Therefore they have more expendable dollars and can afford more expensive things.

2) Some people are willing to take on more loans than others.

You can also add scholarships to the mix.

What am I missing? It isn't rocket science.

Sort of a rude answer. I asked a simple question - how do people pay for it at Columbia? I didn't know if Columbia gave any financial aid (Rochester doesn't) for the accelerated program, or if everyone who went simply had parents/family willing to pay for it out of pocket, or if most people were taking out tons of loans. Your "it isn't rocket science" comment at the end was a little unnecessary...learn to take out your numerous personal issues in a more positive way instead of sounding like an ***** on the internet.

Well, that's basically how I'm paying for it. I'm fortunate to have family members who are helping out with some of tuition, and student loans cover the rest. I did win one scholarship but unfortunately missed the deadline for many others. (By the time I was accepted into Columbia the deadlines had already passed :()

Ms Jeanette73 hi what school u at now for your PNP program?

Jeanette73 I saw that U went to SUNY Downstate. I have some questions about the Masters program ?

I did the accelerated program at Downstate. Now I'm in Columbia for PNP.

PLEASE help anyone....what are my chances of getting into Columbia's ETP Program??

--Took the GRE this week....range of scores (don't know my exact score yet) is between at 500-600 verbal and between a 580-680 quantitative.

--GPA 3.3 undergrad from University of Virginia

--GPA is 4.0 so far in prerequisites, but most of them are still in progress, so Columbia won't see the majority of the pre-req grades before deciding to accept me or not.

--Have volunteer experience in the field

HELP!!!! Soo anxious.

Hi Everyone, I have a quick question about the ETP program essay.

Is it a common practice for people to change the margins of the essay to allow more room for writing? The guideline specified 2 pages double spaced, but didn't mention anything about messing with margins. What do you all think?

Thanks everyone!

Hi, I'm currently in the ETP program. For my app last year, I kept my margins to one inch all around. The school gets something like a 1000 apps, so if the essay is going over 2 pages, it means it's too long. The nursing faculty at the school are the ones who read the essays, and they have influence over who gets accepted into the next class. I would make sure that your essay is memorable.
