Hey everyone. I was just wondering who applied to Columbia University's ETP program.
I got an email today telling me to keep logging into the website where I applied to check on the status of my application. Has anyone else got this email? And does anyone know approximately when they begin to post decisions?
I'm nervous as this was my #2 school.
Hi everyone,
I just received my financial aid package as well. I am not really happy about the numbers. For some reason I only received $5,500 in federal staffod loan unlike most of you said $12,500 in federal loan. I was wondering did you guys receive $12,500 in stafford loan or there is other federal loan available? Also, how do we apply for private student loan, do we just go to a bank and ask for them or there is a website we can apply? Thank you.

i received $5,500 in subsidized loans and $7,000 in unsubsidized. you may want to contact oscar if you didn't receive the $7,000 as i was under the impression that we all would receive that amount (which is the max for undergrads - i double checked with oscar).
one of the attachments in the financial aid email he sent had a link to private loans that columbia recommends: http://www.columbia.edu/cu/sfs/pdfs/2008-2009_undergrad_private_chart.pdf.
are any of you confused by the deadline they want us to accept the award by? since this occurs before the deadline the admissions department gave us for deciding if we want to attend, i'm wondering if there's any type of penalty for accepting the award and then deciding on a different school??
Btljoos - i was wondering the same thing, as I'm not making up my mind until after Visiting Day. I think you can always say you don't want the award... since the funds aren't dispersed until May, and you still need to sign promissory notes and all that good stuff... i would imagine its okay. But if you get a concrete answer about that, would you post it for us? :)
Dohzen - That sucks! I can send you mine - they are pretty much the same!
Right now I am really leaning toward passing on Columbia The other programs I applied to the first year is considered graduate, and you don't have to worry about private loans. Also, they cost half as much or less, and the areas are cheaper to live in. I like the idea of Columbia, but not the reality of paying for it. We'll see... i seem to change my mind every other day.

I went through the Wells Fargo that they recommended, but I'm open to other suggestions.
