Hey everyone. I was just wondering who applied to Columbia University's ETP program.
I got an email today telling me to keep logging into the website where I applied to check on the status of my application. Has anyone else got this email? And does anyone know approximately when they begin to post decisions?
I'm nervous as this was my #2 school.
i've been trolling craigslist as well for places. i live in nyc, but am looking for a place closer to campus. there's definitely areas to be careful about...my friend just moved out of her place on 145th and edgecombe because she was hearing gun shots at night and clearly didn't feel too safe. unfortunately, apartments on the upper west side are pretty damn expensive, so inwood (in the 200's; columbia is on 168th) may be the way to go. i have a friend who lives there and her apartment is amazing and the rent is affordable. she even has a dishwasher, which is something you probably won't see the entire time you're in new york.
Thanks for the input btlejoos! I haven't heard too many bad things about Inwood. Is it fairly close to Columbia?
I have been thinking about doing the ETP, and then working full time and doing the masters part-time. I've heard most hospitals will give you money toward your tuition, and working full time definitely offsets the costs. I'm trying to figure out if i'll save more this route, vs. forfitting the $10,000 extra in scholarship money from SON. Is there anyone else there stretching their brain to think of ways to make this work without being condemned to a lifetime of debt?
I have NO resources outside of loans so its hard! My shoulders get so tense everytime I think about a private loan for $50 or $60 thousand. All i can hope is hope it pays off. I'm still hearing mixed reviews about the program, which is making it harder. I cannot wait for Visitors Day!!!
Hello Everyone, It is so fun to have found a site full of future classmates! WE GOT IN!! I just wanted to post because I am also interested in off campus housing options. I have spent a good amount of time in the Upper West Side and Morningside Heights, and I love both areas. So many great markets, parks etc. And as long as we are on the west side the subway should be pretty easy. Right now I live in DC, but my boyfriend lives on 102nd and Broadway, so if it would be helpful to have someone to go up there and look at places I could definitely do it. Let me know if you are interested or we can all just chat on visiting student day. So excited to meet all of you!
Also, a little background: I'm 23/F doing the WHNP specialty. I am originally from Palo Alto, California, went to school in North Carolina and am currently living and doing health policy work in DC. Would also be interested in a place that would let me get a pup, I'm less of a cat person but that wouldn't be a deal breaker.

Hi Tempest,
I used a private loan to pay for an accelerated bachelor's last year (not for Columbia), and when I was looking into which lender to use, I found that private loans typically (if not always?) have variable interest rates....and typically have no upper limit. My federal loans are fixed rate at ~6.5%, and my private loan started out ~8.25% I think, but now has dropped way down to around 4%. The rate on my private loan can change every 3 months. I used citibank.
