Columbia University-ETP

Published

Hey everyone. I was just wondering who applied to Columbia University's ETP program.

I got an email today telling me to keep logging into the website where I applied to check on the status of my application. Has anyone else got this email? And does anyone know approximately when they begin to post decisions?

I'm nervous as this was my #2 school.

hello everyone! sorry i've been mia. i've had a lot of distractions going on in my life. after the initial excitement of getting into columbia, the anxiety, stress and fear set in. i'd be moving from the sf bay area. i still have to finish microbiology this semester. i'd be leaving my boyfriend of nearly 5 years and our three little dogs. i'd be spending more money than i've ever seen in my entire life!!! etc. etc.

yet, i'd also get to pursue my dream. live outside of california for the first time. meet hella cool new people and try and get people to start using hella on the east coast. etc. etc. and like other people i still haven't received my financial aid package but am hoping that something miraculous will happen!

I loved The Business of Being Born Documentary! It was definitely an eye opener. Midwifery is huge in Vermont, and most of my friends who have children used midwives, one of them even did home births and loved it! It was really scary to see all the interventions that are used, and the harm they can do. I also thought the ironic twist of the producer having pre-term labor an interesting contrast, and helped show that obviously we still need the hospitals. Anyway - i'm not going for midwifery, but it made me think a little more about it.

If you have netflix, it is one of the documentaries you can watch online.

I'm watching it with my online Netflix and flipping back and forth between that and this message board.... LOL

Liz - we'd like it if you left hella on the west coast :coollook:

Also - it is definitely a lot to consider. I am leaving my boyfriend of four years and my three kitties - granted i am at least in reasonable driving distance. GOod luck with decisions everybody. I think Visiting Day is a big factor. I hear from UVM this week!

Liz! I'm from the bay area and I'm hella gonna use the word "hella" with you. Haha. I made the move 7 years ago and I'm so happy I did! It's scary but FUN when you get here. You'll love it I promise!

Ha ha ha....Good luck with UVM, freyalisa!

Hi everyone!

I was accepted to the Acute care BSN/MSN speciality. Any other prospective ACNP's out there? Also, I am evaluating between Columbia and Hopkins and can't decide because they are both great programs, any advice!?!?!

I so want to see my financial aid package. I need to do some serious budgeting! Where is it!?!?! :uhoh21:

Also, for those of you with downtime who have been fretting about negative posts, this thread has some very nice upbeat posts from people in the program, and I have found it comforting.

oh sweet jesus, just got my financial aid package. i can't believe we get so little in federal loans! i didn't realize that because we're considered undergrads the first year, we can only get about $12,000 in federal money. the first year is going to be so difficult. at least we get bigger loans in the master's portion.

Hi freyalisa,

Thanks for the link! I was also getting nervous after reading bad posts but the comments are right, people usually only post when they're upset.

I'm accepted into the 2009 class as well and am planning on getting my FNP. Dr. Hall was very encouraging and responsive when I spoke with her during the app process and I'd love to work in an ER during the grad portion.

I also was accepted to Penn and posted a question but haven't received any replies (I don't think current Penn students use this board). No decisions yet. I'm weighing the options and waiting for the financial aid package.

Have you heard anything about Penn's program?

Thanks, doggiedad

btljoos - oh no! I didn't think about that. Blah. I haven't gotten my packet yet, but i'm sure they all look pretty similar!

Doggiedad,

I'm really relieved that you can work close to full time during the masters portion. I've read mixed reviews about how easy it is to find work tho.... so much uncertainty. I guess it's all about big risks and hope they work out!

after seeing my financial aid package i freaked out and called oscar. he said that most students work at least one or two shifts during the master's program to offset costs a bit. hopefully it's possible to do that without pushing back our graduation date.
