Hey everyone. I was just wondering who applied to Columbia University's ETP program.
I got an email today telling me to keep logging into the website where I applied to check on the status of my application. Has anyone else got this email? And does anyone know approximately when they begin to post decisions?
I'm nervous as this was my #2 school.
freyalisa you are so right. also doesn't seem like anyone got in anesthesia yet- at least not anyone on this forum plus a few other specialties haven't been mentioned.
btw 180 out of 600 are great odds compared to other schools like Downstate (50 out of 500 so I hear). So those of you waiting hang tight it's not over!
Hey Freyalisa,
whereabouts in vermont are you from?
I'm new to this thread.... just noticed that you're from vermont... me too.. i went to UVM for undergrad. i've lived in NYC for about 6+ years now. Going through a career change. Currently work in fashion but just got into the ETP at columbia, Adult NP program and I'm super excited!!! Congrats to everyone else! i'm excited to meet my future classmates!!
I love that we've become such a team through this!
I'm an east-coaster from the suburbs of DC originally, but (like you jcarranz5) am between coasts these days, in New Orleans, Louisiana. I think all of us non-New Yorkers will find our ways together. The city's not as intimidating as it makes itself out to be! Though I'm not at all looking forward to the housing search...
Midwifery people - megandan, aspiring.midwife, Midwife2012, and planet612 - I'm in for the dual specialty with WHNP, too, and would love to meet up / explore NY together after the visiting day time! One of my roommates bought me the documentary "The Business of Being Born" as a late-Christmas/presumptive-congratulations present and we just watched it tonight to celebrate...I highly recommend it to pump yourselves up if you haven't already seen it!
freyalisa - I'm totally with you on the "any minute they'll call and tell me it was a mistake!" feeling :) I don't think I'll believe it until I'm in my first class, honestly.
dohzenOFF & jalin_2009 - mribera1 and others have said it, but yes you can switch specialties (except into Anesthesia/Midwifery). For similar reasons, you can be accepted to the ETP in general but then not be accepted to your specialty area if you applied to one of those two, and they give you an option to switch from the get-go.
also for jalin_2009 - In general they don't have a waiting list, but they've said that they'll play it by ear if it seems necessary for some reason.
I think that covers it.
I'm also excitedly awestruck and grateful and crossing my fingers/toes for everyone who's still waiting!
I got into Acute Care too! Does anyone know much about Columbia's ACNP program? I went to the general ETP info session held in San Fran back in October but I'm considering going to visiting day to see what their Acute Care program is like- depending on where else I get into (if so) before then. Congrats everyone!
Jalin - anesthesia (& I believe midwifery too) are particularly competitive b/c of such limited slots. Judy told me there were approx 70 applicants for 10 anesthesia spots this year. So, while the general ETP admissions committee accepted me, I didn't make the cut for one of the anesthesia spots. I was invited to pick another specialty.
Do you guys have facebook pages? Maybe we should make a little group for us on there - then we could put faces to names before the big visiting day. Let me know what you think - just an idea. Also - do you know how we choose/declare a sub-specialty? I want to do palliative and end of life care ... do I just take the extra classes or do I need additional permission?

This is one thread with a handful of people, out of the 600 +that applied and the 160ish that got in, we've heard from like 10 people. So you can't base anything on this tiny sampling of the population. Hang in there!
