Columbia ETP 2015

Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.

Anyone else?!

I can't believe you guys are still re-reading your statements over. I was so done with reading that for editing purposes and was so tired of my own story by the end haha! It seemed more mediocre as I kept re-reading it.

I re-read it for my interviews. I did the same, though, I worked on it for months so by the end I was completely blind to the content. It's not the worst thing I've ever written but it feels like it's too weak to be something to stake my future on, ya know?

I know. I noticed one word that was debatable whether the first letter should've been capitalized and I was freaking out haha. I agree. I think the closer we get to decisions, the slower time is going to feel like it's passing. And LOL to the snow. Us so-cal residents who know nothing about the cold are expecting some high winds and drizzle :bored:

Oh yeah I did that too for my interviews. Nah, I'm sure our statements were good enough and stood out to admissions at least that's why we got selected for interviews!!! :)

I'm so sorry I'm joining this discussion so late!! Did people interview this year? Do you remember what Naveed said about the "Average" Student? I remember a GPA of 3.0 and a GRE in the 50ish percentile, but that can't be the case if so few people are accepted, can it?

:-(

There are no interviews and from what I've heard Columbia accepts a handful of people

Thank you SZ1991! Any chance you have a better idea of what a "handful" is? Like a #, or an acceptance rate?

So is the admission based just on grades and resume?

There is really no cap on any specialty besides Anesthesia (8) and Midwife (8 as well I believe, but I'm not sure). On average, 800 students are accepted, however.

Last year, Columbia took between 205 and 210 students. The school is looking to increase to about 220 students. There are caps on the anesthesia and midwifery tracks. Midwifery will be especially tight this admission year, as it looks like there will be fewer spots available than usual (20). The number of students who apply each year varies, but I think the expectation is around 750.

Since they don't do interviews do you guys know what they look at?

They look at EVERYTHING so it's not solely based on grades. I know someone who was accepted with an undergrad GPA of 3.0 but stellar essay
