Columbia ETP 2015

Published

Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.

Anyone else?!

Hi all,

I'm currently applying to Columbia's ETP program and was wondering if anyone has encountered the same dilemma as I have. I applied to other schools (i.e. Vanderbilt) that require me to fill out my FAFSA as a graduate student. However, on Columbia's financial aid website, it says I need to file as a 5th year undergrad. Since my FAFSA has been processed as a graduate student, if I go back to make changes per the directions on Columbia's website, will the other schools no longer have access to the information I submitted as a graduate student? I hope this makes some sense...

Hi friends2015 -- I called FAFSA with the same question. Just resubmit and send to Columbia. You won't lose the grad school information with the other schools. I freaked out about that one for a while! :) Hope this helps.

Also -- the financial aid offices seem pretty flexible, in that if you are accepted, but made a mistake on the FAFSA, they can adjust your aid package accordingly once you update it.

Good luck!

Thanks so much FNPlmt5! May be a stupid question, but in the school selection portion, would I "remove" all the other schools and only submit to Columbia then? Or did you just keep all the other schools and submit as directed by Columbia's financial aid website (which I would assume means all the other schools will receive both files as graduate student and 5th year undergrad)? Sorry for the questions! When I called FAFSA the person I talked to wasn't the most helpful :/

Not a stupid question at all (as I asked it myself to the FAFSA people). It doesn't matter. I send undergrad AND grad to all of my schools (just to be safe). They will receive both -- meaning that if you submit your grad app to School X, and then resubmit it as a 5th year undergrad to School X, the grad information won't be "erased" -- they will just have both. I know the financial side of this can be REALLY anxiety-provoking, but it will all get figured out. Almost there! :)

Wow FNPlmt5! Thank you so much for answering that! Definitely has me at ease now. best of luck!

I applied to this program, did anyone received an email from them stating that "Your application has passed the initial admissions review and your application is complete. We will now forward your application to the Faculty Admissions Committee. "

I though there was going to be interviews for this program, but reading all the post I don't think that is the case now. Does anybody know?

Yes! I received that email too a few weeks ago. Also, Columbia does not host interviews :)

Yeah. I got that email too in December . Haven't heard anything since then...

How's everyone holding up? Any news from Columbia? I can't believe we "should" be finding out in less than 2 weeks.

I'm pretty excited! It's been hard to stay distracted throughout the wait but it feels even more difficult as we inch towards decision days. I think I'm all done with my interviews so now I have nothing to do but perseverate over the whole application process (I re-read my statement and kept cringing at oddly structured sentences). Fingers crossed it all pays off!!

I'm excited to hear back! I really want to get in.

I just have two more interviews left: Yale on Thursday and Seattle University whenever they contact me. The Yale phone interview is making me nervous though...

HAHA I keep rereading my statement also and thinking how I should've tweaked x y and z lol.. Oh well. Despite the major anxiety leading up to it, I think this came pretty fast (not fast enough) but fast. I'm hoping next week we find out.

For all your non-north easterns lol we are getting hit big time with a major snow storm =)
