Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.

Anyone else?!

Ugh! Gross. But I might be in that boat if I get accepted to columbia lol. Oh the things we do for our futures...

Ha! You can say that again lol

I've lived in Morningside Heights for about 10 years. It's a nice neighborhood (Columbia is here) and only about 15 minutes on the train.

I am also a writer! My undergraduate degree is in creative writing. My husband keeps telling me to write while I have the free time...I don't know haha.

Ah, it's very nice to meet a fellow writer! Yes, you should write in your spare time. What genres interest you?

I enjoy reading crime and some fantasy novels. I've never attempted to write either of those genres though. I usually dabble in realistic fiction - writing characters I know personally. My best friend has a crime novel published which I had the pleasure of editing. Always made me want to get into that genre.

What about yourself?

I've always loved folklore. I mainly write within the genres of horror and folklore with a few undertones of romance. Most of my work is based on actual events or historical accounts mingled with fiction. I finished my first novel a few years ago. The second which is a sequel to the first is complete as well but I'm thinking about revising that one. At present I'm working on a short story which I intend to submit to an online magazine. ☺

Is there a safe place to live that is within walking distance to Columbia? Also, would it be convenient to live in Brooklyn, Bedford-Stuyvesant, or Jersey City? Thanks. ☺

BedStuy is up and coming so there's a few good spots and a few "not so good areas" so you really just have to be wary about location and keep in mind that you'll be coming home really late a days out the week. Jersey City is pretty much the same but you get a lot more bang for your buck when it comes to the size of the apartment. JC you can take the path to either world trade center (1 stop) and catch the express A then transfer to the C or, from Bedstuy I think it may be the J, M or L train which you can take to Manhattan transferring to the C. Washington Heights isn't as bad as BedStuy and it's within walking distance but because of it's location, apartments may be pricier.

Thank you. I will take a look at Washington Heights. I did some research on Jersey City a couple of years ago (I was offered a job in NYC...) and it seems to be a pretty decent place to live.

Jersey City is a really nice place to live of course depending on location. Great city views and a lot more space for the price. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Does anyone know when we find out about decisions?

Does anyone know when we find out about decisions?

According to the previous threads of ETP hopefuls it's that first week in Feb, around the 6th/7th.
