Hi guys! I thought I’d make a new forum for those applying to the Spring program at Collin College.
I applied for the fall semester, but I was not accepted, the fall term was extremely competitive. I was told that they had an unprecedented amount of applicants last cycle, there were over 400 applicants. Also, the average TEAS score of the applicants was 87.5. I retook my TEAS last week and made a 92!
Micro wasn’t honestly too bad. I took it virtually and I wish I would have done the labs in person but regardless you should still try to get an A @jeiman1. When I talked to Ms. Rangel she said that Collin weighs out your GPA and TEAS score 50/50. I have a buddy that’s a nurse that got into nursing school at a university w a 65 TEAS score! But his school didn’t put too much importance in the TEAS as long as your GPA was 3.9 or so. My advice is that if you’re struggling to get a good score on your TEAS like I did, get all As. No Bs. Do whatever you have to do to make it happen. If you want to do better on your TEAS focus on the sections they give you that you missed on. Do you know what I’m talking about?

This is helpful to hear. I am not applying until next year but have been going back and forth in retaking my AP1 class. I have a 3.2 GPA for the pre reqs (A in Micro and AP2, and an unfortunate C in AP1) I have a 93.5 on the TEAS so for the point system, I have an 18.35 for total points. I have until October 26 to decide to register for AP1 again to boost up my GPA to get an A and also get 1 more point, however retakes aren’t covered by financial aid since I technically already passed the class. I’ve been pretty stressed mentally and financially trying to decide. I also don’t know if it looks bad and will hurt me more if I retake a class since I know you have to deduct a point. I feel like 18 points is somewhat competitive, but I also know it’s right at the edge of being rejected as well. Makes me very anxious! Congrats to everyone that got in this cycle!!
FYI, there are two Terms of Service-acceptable ways to create a special area for your cohort.
One, create a facebook page.
Two, create a club, by clicking on the Breakroom link (upper left-hand corner, in the yellow bar), and creating a new "club" thread.
Thank you, and we wish you well in your nursing program!
Hello everyone,
First of all, congratulations on being accepted into the Spring 2021 cohort! I am currently a first semester ADN student at Collin, so if anyone has any questions about anything I would be happy to try and answer it as best as I can. I remember having a million questions of what to expect myself, so I'd be happy to help.
Thanks for offering to field our questions! How has the first semester been? Do you start clinicals next semester? (I’m excited to buy scrubs, but we won’t need them the first semester do we?)
I was thinking about buying some of the books. what are some of the books that we will need the first semester? What is the hardest course?
Thanks!
We would be very much obliged if you could provide the books we really need for the first semester. (I've heard many people say that you won't always need the ones the school tells you to get).
How many days of lecture and how many of lab and the time you spend in each. How early does class/lab usually start?
Thanks!

Hello,
Can anyone tell me what was the lowest point, they got in collin for the Spring semester? My point is 18.5, I just took TEAS 1st time and this will be my first ever application for any nursing program.
TEAS -74 percent= 7.4 point
all prereqs done=1 point
AP 1 and AP 2 -A=10 point
total 18.5 point. Am I counting point ,right?

I got accepted and still have Micro in progress, so those with Micro completed would have received an extra point. Getting A’s in A&P is super important for Collin’s point system. I made an 89.3 on the TEAS, so that also gave me 8.93 points. The point scale is on their website, and I don’t believe that they changed it.
