COLLIN COLLEGE - Spring 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hi guys! I thought I’d make a new forum for those applying to the Spring program at Collin College.

I applied for the fall semester, but I was not accepted, the fall term was extremely competitive. I was told that they had an unprecedented amount of applicants last cycle, there were over 400 applicants. Also, the average TEAS score of the applicants was 87.5. I retook my TEAS last week and made a 92!

Hello! This will be my first time applying and I am super scared. I have a 4.0 and I retook A&P 1. I scored an 85.7 on my TEAS. Should I retake my TEAS to shoot for a better grade or do you think I stand a chance. I am still confused with the points system so I am not sure where I stand.

Hey girl! That’s honestly a great score, great job! I’m aiming for at least an 85 or above, since the average TEAS score last cycle was an 87 ? the competition is high. There are still test slots open, so if you feel like you could improve your score, it wouldn’t hurt to retest. But, I think you have a solid score.

This is the file that displays how the points are calculated : https://www.collin.edu/nursing/associatedegreenursing/Spring 2021 Admission Criteria Form.docx

So, in your case, you’d be applying with 18.57 points - you get one 1 point for completion of all prerequisites (A&P 1 &2, and micro) then 10 points for having an A in both A&P 1 & 2. Then 8.57 points for your TEAS score, and minus 1 point for retaking A&P. And if you served in the military, you’d get one point extra.

The tiebreakers could make and break whether you get in or not, so if you did really well in science & reading, you’d picked over someone else.

I see, thanks for the information. That was super helpful. I will most likely retest to hopefully get a score in the 90’s and improve my total points.

What was your score breakdown? The English portion killed me LOL and brought my overall score down

Girl, the Science and English sections killed me. I felt like I could have done better. Unfortunately, half way through the science portion I really had to go to the restroom and it really made me lose focus LOL ??‍♀️

Reading: 87.2

Math: 100

Science: 76.6

English: 75

Hi, am new here too. Quick question Jazzy. Are you applying to any other schools for Spring 2021? One of my friends did apply for fall semester too and she is now applying again but to a couple more schools too with me, just in case. She told me Collin college was competitive and with Covid-19. they might have reduced the number of applicants they took for fall. With your stats, it looks like you were pretty close.

Hi! Unfortunately, I do not have Chemistry complete so I can’t apply to TWU for the upcoming term. I was going to apply to Grayson for Spring 2021, but the deadline has already passed. My dream school is Collin, it’s a highly accredited program & I live literally 5 minutes away, I could walk there ?

I know, it’s really risky only applying to one program, but I can’t apply to any BSN program as of now since I don’t have chem complete yet. What other programs have you applied to? Also, they did reduce the applicants accepted during the fall term due to Covid, I was told at the zoom info session! They also said this is the most amount of applicants they’ve ever received in a cycle, so it was very competitive last term.

Oh I see, I applied to Elcentro but their deadline was July 15th, but looking at NCTC too. Brookhaven and mountain view have their applications open too. I know 5 minutes away is so close, I would totally prefer that too. Good luck this time, you got this, where there is a will, there is a way. All the best.

Thank you!! I’m going to check out Brookhaven & Mountain View tonight. When are you scheduled to take your TEAS? Or have you already taken it?

Still considering taking it, but hopefully will pick a date before deadline. Just took the HESI, its way easier than TEAS for sure. Hope I get enough for the program. I do not really mind which program I get into as long as I get into one. At the end of the day what matters is that you have your RN license...Then move on for more like a BSN to the highest level you wish to.

Hello, did they change the selection criteria for Collin college from the fall selection criteria. Is this 10% on TEAS score system better or are they the same? what do you think? Also, did they mention (during the Zoom) how many applicants were accepted into the program this fall and would the number be increased for Spring or would it remain the same? Thank you!
