Collin College spring 2012 Hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone I couldnt find a thread for Collin college spring 2012 so I thought I would start one. Im so excited, this is actually my 3rd time applying but this time I raised my PSB score and retook 1 class. I know retaking a class is bad but I had to since I had a C, I now have an A in that class. My over all score is a 14. I heard all 15 and 16 got in last semester and some 14 I hope that I will be one of those 14! I know they consider a few other things like residency, where you took your classes, and your PSB score. I took most my classse at collin, live in collin and got a 6 on my PSB. Do you guys think I have a shot? I hope so! I cant wait, does anyone know when we get the letters? I think its the 1st or 2nd week of septembre but im not sure. Anyways Good luck everyone!:nurse:

Congrats to you for making it! :yeah: Does the letter say when you have to accept or deny by?

Mine said by October 7th.

Yeah, the reading portion on the PSB weighs heavy. But you have a good attitude. Good luck!

If you did not get in, don't give up hope!! I got in off the waitlist and so did several others in my class. Call Monday and make an appointment to go talk to them...be nice, let them know you are serious. I am convinced that goes far!!

Thank you! Thats what I plan on doing because other than taking the PSB over and getting the one last bonus point, there is nothing else I can do to get in! Hoping & Praying!

Hi guys! Congrats to those that have been accepted and good luck to those on the waiting list! I am planning to apply in Jan. for Fall 2012. I will take the PSB Mid-December-ish. For those of you that scored high on the PSB, what materials did you use to study? This will be my first time taking it and first time applying to the program. I have all the support classes (All A's) and will have 3/4 prereqs completed (no stats yet)...so I'm aiming for a 6 on the PSB! Any suggestions you have for success are much appreciated! I just got the NLN RN Pre-entrance Exam Rvw Guide from 1/2 price books...it seems like a decent place to start.

Thanks! :)

I received my letter yesterday and also got accepted!!:yeah:Congrats to the others that got accepted also, and those on the wait list I will keep my fingers crossed for you! I can't wait to meet everyone at orientation!

I started following this thread about a week or so ago when I was still anxiously waiting for Collin to mail out the letters and was getting very antsy. I received my acceptance letter from Collin on Saturday (of course, it came on the one day when noone was going to be home so I had to remotely have a friend break into my mailbox to check my mail and then read my letter to me!!). I'm really excited about starting this new process with many of you in January! Just fyi, I'm actually taking Micro right now so I didn't have the one point for taking Micro but I maxxed out all of the other points so I was able to apply with a 15 minus micro. I do also have a previous degree and live in Collin County (which sounds was in my favor). I wasn't sure about how the "not having Micro yet" was going to impact my acceptance and was mentally prepared to reapply for Fall once I had Micro completed but thankfully it looks like I won't need to do that! I am planning hand delivering my written acceptance so there's no chance of it getting lost in the mail! Looks like it's due by Oct 7 and then we have a mandatory orientation at some point. Congrats to my fellow classmates of Spring 2012 and best wishes to all of you that were wait listed!

Honestly I didn't study for the PSB at all. It covers the basics - reading comprehension, spelling, math aptitude, earth sciences. One thing a lot of people do not realize is that you are only scored on a percentile. This means that questions you do not answer are not scored. Meaning - if you do not know the answer, skip the question and go to the next one. Just be careful to keep it straight on your answer sheet. You are not scored on the whole exam, only the portion that you finish. How much of a section you finished in the allowed time along with how many you got correct figures into the score. But people have reported madly filling out as many as they can because time was running out, not realizing they were actually driving their score down by answering questions they had not even read.

Hi I took the PSB twice; the first time got a 5 because I did not realize that the reading portion is worth 2 points! That's one thing they don't tell you, the reading portion is really the most important part. (The second time I got a 6) To get the 2 points on that it's all about speed, read as fast as you can and go for the easy questions first. I bought 2 review books one for PSB and one for HESI, they both helped. What I was most worried about was spelling, definitely review spelling rules! And also like not.done.yet said, you do not have to answer everything, I skipped right over all the ones I was hesitant on. I only completely finished 3 of the 5 sections.

Also Healthy101 I can not wait to meet you!! Congratulations :yeah: Which campus are you taking micro at?:nurse:

I also got accepted! I was nervously waiting for my letter for weeks... as I'm sure you all were. I got a 5 on the PSB but maxed out my points on everything else, so I ended up applying with a 15. I know another girl who got waitlisted with 15 so I think it came down to details. I had a 4.0 GPA and hadnt retaken anything, but I did not take any classes at Collin College. I did have 3 nursing classes that I completed at another nursing program, so maybe that helped. I am looking forward to meeting all of my classmates and I hope we become close friends! I hope that the people who were waitlisted don't give up hope! Keep trying!!

Hey guys! both my mother and I have been stalking this site for the past 2 weeks to see when everyone was getting their letters! and thankfully I got mine on saturday and was accepted! I had 16 out of 16 points, without taking any of my prereqs at collin, and I have no prior degree. I called the nursing office today to ask about orientation and she said that there was a mistake in the letter and that the orientation date was supposed to be posted in it! The orientation (for those of you who got in) is October 21st from 830 to noon. It is mandatory and if not attended will result in removal from the program. I am still currently waiting to hear back from another program which is a BSN program, although I believe my chances for that program is slim. I am VERY excited to be definitely accepted into the CCCC program, but I thought my situation would give some one you who were wait-listed a little bit of hope (and I know a few other people in my shoes). So all of you stay positive, you never know if you'll end up getting that call!! :)

Hi there....Thank you so much for posting the details of the orientation!! I was wondering about that as well when I got my acceptance letter (well, I wondered about it after I calmed down). I'm marking my calendar but did they happen to tell you if they were going to send updated letters with the orientation details? Thanks so much and I hope to see you these on the 21st!
