Congratulations! I'm starting my nursing classes in about 3 weeks as well! I was actually discussing travel with one of my night house supervisors at the hospital the other day, and I wouldn't mind international travel at some point. I figured, hey...I have no permanent ties or kids...now is the time to explore. :) This is after a couple years on the job and a certain comfort level, of course. But yeah, I've thought about it!

I will only be starting nursing school this Fall, but take it from someone that has worked in a few different ERs, seen/heard MANY things that go on in hospitals, and has also dated guys that I've worked with in said hospitals...keep it as professional as possible and try to avoid romantic connections / relationships in the workplace! (can't say that enough!) NS is for learning, plain and simple. Things may be great with this person for a few wks, months, or even a year, but if you break up or if one is dropped from or leaves the program (heaven forbid), it could have negative effects on the one left. A relationship in this environment may also create an awkward and / or hostile learning opportunity for your classmates, especially if another one of the girls is attracted to you or another guy becomes attracted to her. It could create division when a team effort is imperative. There will always be a sense of awkwardness between you and the other person once you break up and are forced to see this person in such close proximity day in and day out. This is regardless of how amicably things have ended...there is always "weirdness" that may or may not go away with time. This weirdness will almost always be detected by your classmates, whether they know what has taken place or not. So....for your sake and everyone around you, I would HIGHLY recommend finding someone outside the nursing dept to get to know for dating purposes. OR, who knows, maybe you can build a great friendship with NS chick and have something later on after making it through this challenge together. If it is meant to be, it will be, but business should trump all else at this point.

Wow, that was fast! How is the fit of your scrubs? Did you do the tape measure thing or just make a guesstimate? I'm worried they will run super small and I will order the wrong size.

Hello Bran! I'm not in your situation persay, but I recently went through orientation for my nursing program and when this topic came up, we were all advised to disclose any prior charges whether they were pending, expunged, or from 99 years ago. The info provided would then be investigated by the BON (a process which may take weeks, months, or years to complete...) and they would determine whether the individual would be eligible for licensure. The earlier this disclosure is done, the better. I'm not sure what state you are in or whether your rules differ from TX, but to be on the safe side, I would probably research this asap on the board of nursing website or contact them directly regarding your specific case just to see if this is something that could be a hindrance as far as licensure goes. Your program director should also be a great resource for answering specifics. Good luck to you!

Yes, I sure did take Micro @ PrestonRidge in the evening! I really enjoyed that class too. :) Thanks for the info on the books. $550 is not bad at all...what a relief actually! I'll have to give Amazon a go as well. I was a bit nervous when we were told all 10 books were at least $140 each. Yikes!

Hooray! It was great meeting some of you yesterday! I was called in from the waitlist and I'm super excited for the Fall. I look forward to working with all of you over the next two years. :) :cheers:

I was wondering the same thing, Determined. My hospital has a partnership with UTA to complete the BSN in 15 months (once prereqs are completed). I did read that they recommend students work no more than 20 hrs/ wk though.

It was actually a great idea to let your professor in on any frustrations/obstacles you might be experiencing. Hopefully he or she will have some good pointers to steer you in the right direction while studying. A&P has soooo much info, and sometimes it is difficult to know what you will be tested on, but you will find a method to the madness. I went through this last semester with Micro, but I got used to my professor's methods after the 2nd test, and I knew if he stressed anything or wrote something on the board during lecture, I needed to read more about that particular concept on my own...because it would be on the test. 99.9% of the time, it was. So, hang in there...and just pay attention to the material covered and use any online resources or test questions in the book that may help out as well. :)

I feel your pain, acjb! . What were your stats, if you don't mind? I should have had 15 pts with 6/6 from the PSB...one pre-req in progress though. I will be calling first thing Monday. Don't be discouraged! I'm a lil bummed out at the moment, but I will keep going until the fat lady sings....you should too!Congrats to all that made it in so far.
