Collin College Nursing Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello! I know I am super early, but just trying to be proactive. I am planning on applying to the Fall 2021 ADN program at Collin. I currently have a B in A and P 1 and 2 and will be finishing Micro in the Spring semester. Does anyone know someone who has gotten in with B's in the science pre-reqs and a higher TEAS score? I'm taking the TEAS in 2 weeks and if I need to plan to take it again before submitting my final application in May. Any insight would be helpful ?

NbI think as long as u have your 2nd attempt u can still retake it. The last day of taking TEAS before the ADN application deadline is 5/27. But I don’t know anything about resending an application, so u gotta ask the nursing division for that. Another thing I would worry about is how exactly well u did on reading and science sections, since nobody knows when they’re gonna use the tie breaker...that’s one of the reasons I gotta retake my TEAS because I wasn’t happy with my reading score, but science was pretty well

Thank you so much! My science was not what I wanted it to be. I was told after A&P II you do MUCH better since it’s so anatomy heavy. I had a ton on respiratory system, which I hadn’t done yet in class. I was reading another thread that said they used the tie breaker for last fall at like 16 points..? ??‍♀️ I know everyone said due to Covid and online learning there was also a drop in grade point averages throughout most classes.. but I’m such a worry wart. I’ll call tomorrow and ask if I could resubmit an application or if they will just utilize my highest score, if I retake my TEAS. Thank you!! Fingers crossed for you!

Did anyone apply to Collin's LVN program and ADN program? I attended an informational for the LVN program, and the director said you would not be admitted to the ADN if you didn't get an A in all 3 prerequisites.

I haven’t applied yet, but really? I mean I kinda knew the more points u have the more chances u have to get accepted, but what about the TEAS score? like would they care more about the TEAS than grades?

I’m sitting on an informational for the ADN on Tuesday so I’ll let y’all know.. I know last cycle they def have accepted some with a B because they weighted the GPA and TEAS and those with one B, esp if it’s micro, but then got at least a 90 on the TEAS and a 3.7 minimum for GPA.  Maybe things changed.  But I’ll def not be accepted if that’s the case since I do have one B in micro. 90 on TEAS and 19.0 points total (AP1 is a retake) I plan to apply again for the Spring but hopefully will get more insight next week.

As I have commented previously in this thread, the 16 points low acceptance was from my Cohort (Fall 2020). We were under a different point system. We were actually an incredibly difficult class to get into because they only took 60 of us. Our class low for acceptance under YOUR point system would have been 19 points with 8 tie breaker points. People REALLY need to stop confusing others with this misinformation.

Apply to other schools if you don’t get into Collin. I knew After reading these forums getting into Collins program would be super hard. So I applied to NCTC and WGU. I got into both! I choose WGU because it’s 2 1/2 years and it’s a bachelors program. In the long run I feel I’m not spending much more than doing a community school and then a bachelors bridge.  Plus WGU is online which works better for my family sin I’m a mom of 4.  I had a B inA&P 1, A in A&P 2, and a B in Micro. I made an 80.7 on my TEAS. I already have a bachelors degree as well. Just want you guys to look at other options.

I GOT IN TO BSN-RN !!!

It's not that they don't care about the TEAS it is just that Collin is one of the best programs in the area and INSANLY competitive. Collin averages about 500-600 applications PER cycle. Of those about 150 have a 4.0 GPA... So what the director is getting at is that losing a point with a B can be a very hard obstacle to overcome... You essentially need to crush the TEAS to have a chance. My cohort (fall 2020) has a class average of a 4.0 GPA and our class low for the TEAS was an 80 with 8 tiebreaker points. The Spring semester was a tiny bit less competitive because they took more students, but still very difficult to get into. Collin has an excellent reputation and NCLEX pass rating for a reason. Not all Nursing Programs are created equal... There are some absolute jokes of programs out there that won't teach you *** and that have terrible NCLEX pass ratings... Collin is not one of them... They are actually a center for nursing excellence LOL...

I CANT WAIT.

Yes, they have a 100% NCLEX pass rate!

I am applying for fall,2021. My GPA is 4 and got an A in all three prerequisites. My biggest fear is my TEAS score, it's only 75 percent. As I was in the hospital for two months due to the complication of my pregnancy, and Nicu baby, I couldn't handle the pressure of the TEAS test. As of my calculations, my score is 18.4. I just want to know 18.4, is it a good score? Otherwise, I have to try TEAS for the Spring session. Does anyone have an idea of previous sessions' minimum acceptance score. Please pour your insight.Need some inspirational talk...
