Collin College Nursing Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello! I know I am super early, but just trying to be proactive. I am planning on applying to the Fall 2021 ADN program at Collin. I currently have a B in A and P 1 and 2 and will be finishing Micro in the Spring semester. Does anyone know someone who has gotten in with B's in the science pre-reqs and a higher TEAS score? I'm taking the TEAS in 2 weeks and if I need to plan to take it again before submitting my final application in May. Any insight would be helpful ?

As I have commented previously in this thread, the 16 points low acceptance was from my Cohort (Fall 2020). We were under a different point system. We were actually an incredibly difficult class to get into because they only took 60 of us. Our class low for acceptance under YOUR point system would have been 19 points with 8 tie breaker points. People REALLY need to stop confusing others with this misinformation.

Thank you for clarifying. That makes much more sense with it being one of the most competitive programs in the area. I was unaware of the change in their point system. Thank God they’re back to full capacity this semester.

Also, the first semester you will have to drop about $300 for a *** "skills bag" that you will only use 1/4 of the material out of... Then there are the Castle Branch fees, buying a set of Collin scrubs, book bundle, stethoscope, ect. I spent about $1200 on top of tuition for first semester. Good news is Collin offers a TON of scholarships to help offset the cost. They are easy to get and you'd be a fool to pass them up.

So, I assume the other semesters should cost quite a bit less because we will already have our supplies and scrubs and all that?

Finally got my application in. Now the dreaded wait. I'm curious how many they will be taking this year. I'm sure there will be a record high of applications since they took fewer applicants last year.

Do you happen to know when acceptance/rejection letters/emails come out? I’ve been looking but can’t find it anywhere.

good luck to you!!

It takes about 6 weeks to get a reply for applications.

I got accepted in the lvn program . Is it a good route to bridge to RN?

I got into the LVN program too. I think it is a good alternate pathway to getting your RN. The LVN is a one year program, and then Collin has an accelerated one year LVN-RN bridge.

Correct. After the first semester your costs are reduced to ATI fee ($800) and regular tuition ($900 for out of county, for me). As a side note, Semester 1 is significantly more challenging than Semester 2 IMO. The content of Semester 2 is slightly more challenging, but the work load is much much much less and you'll already be adjusted to nursing tests and what YOU need to do to succeed. Which leads me to my next point. When you get in, don't reinvent the wheel with the way you study. They are going to assign you an unreasonable amount of reading (about 500 pages per week) to go along with skills. Just focus on the PowerPoints, pertinent material l, hit the high notes, and ALWAYS look for what nursing interventions can be done for each exemplar (body system issue). For meds just learn the high notes for each drug class and the ADRs that pop out.

Does anybody know if moving your mouth or maybe reading questions aloud considered cheating during the TEAS exam? I just realized I’ve been doing that and now im bugging ???

Hey y'all, I failed out of the nursing program last semester (Spring 2021) and I was finishing up my 3rd semester heading to 4th. I am selling everything I have and if anyone is interested let me know. I have 2 skills bags (one used and one brand new never opened), I have 3 pairs of school scrubs (2 used and one never opened) Men's Size XL, 2 lab coats, all my books which are in great condition (some of them never used haha), a blood pressure cuff that I bought to practice but never used from first semester, a Saunders's NCLEX review book, ATI book bundle, Lippincott Pocket Drug Guide, Cherokee Scrubs (one in black the other in turquoise) Men's Size XL for lab, and a great quality stethoscope. Everything is negotiable and I am just trying to sell everything. If you have any questions or need help with anything I am happy to help. Once your in the program is not hard at all but if you are a procrastinator like me I suggest you get it together LOL. I hope y'all get in, your gonna do great :)) My email is [email protected]

Oh damn, that blows. They didn't let you recycle into my class (Just finished 2 and heading into 3)? My class has had a few people fail a semester and drop into my class...

And now... we wait!

Anybody finish their non-nursing courses (psych, developmental psych, etc)? I'm curious as to how much that takes off your plate during the semester.

Also, 1st semester is usually 4 days a week, I've heard. Are the rest of the semesters only 4 days a week, because it LOOKS like there are fewer classes each semester after 1st semester.
