Collin College Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hello! I know I am super early, but just trying to be proactive. I am planning on applying to the Fall 2021 ADN program at Collin. I currently have a B in A and P 1 and 2 and will be finishing Micro in the Spring semester. Does anyone know someone who has gotten in with B's in the science pre-reqs and a higher TEAS score? I'm taking the TEAS in 2 weeks and if I need to plan to take it again before submitting my final application in May. Any insight would be helpful ?

I'm applying too. I've read a ton of post from people who have applied and been admitted to Collin and almost everyone has A's. I have 1 A and 1 B.  I figure the only way I have a shot is an extremely high TEAS Score.  I've taken it before but the science portion has killed me (I pretty much didn't study).  So my overall score was a 79.  I am going to retake it again and spend 1-2 months studying before I do it again.  From what I have heard Collin is the most competitive program to get into in the area.  It's very frustrating because it's the closest program to me and I'd love to go but I'm definitely not counting on it being my only application.

Same here. I took the TEAS just to get a feel for it and the science portion was difficult. I also had not finished A&P 2 yet, so I think that had a lot to do with it. Yes, Collin is the most competitive around here and also the closest to me (literally 10 min from my house).

Hey guys! I was also planning on applying for fall 2021 and in kind of the same predicament  - I’ll have an 18.5 for the point system. I know on the last application, there was a place to write any certifications. I know that doesn’t account for points, but does anyone know if having your CNA and working as a tech in the hospital helps ?

Lauren, this is SUPER early and I LOVE it! I'm working on finishing up Micro in the Spring and I am getting SO anxious to just apply already. Started my pre-reqs last January and finished up some of the non-nursing ADN-required courses like psyc and lifespan development. Currently holding a 4.0 for A&P 1 and 2 and I already took micro at another college that collin wouldn't accept credit from SO that should at least be another easy A.

I'm set to take my TEAS on Saturday and I have NO clue what to expect. I took a practice test through Mometrix and got these scores:

Reading: 89%

Math: 92%

Science: 79%

ELA: 82%

I can't decide whether I should be busting my butt to get my science and ELA scores up.

Hi y'all! I will be applying to Collin ADN program as well. I am doubtful about getting in though. It's a great program with very qualified applicants.

I got an 85.3 on my TEAS (95.7 reading, 93.8 math, 70.2 science, 83.3 ELA).  I am thinking of retaking it to get my science score up.

I got a C in A&P1 and a B in A&P2. I am taking Microbiology in the Spring. I took at previously at A&M and did not do well. I may need to retake A&P1.

Glad to see others are already looking at the application and preparing!

You'd get an extra 2 points for retaking A&P 1, but then you'd lose 1 point for having a retake on your transcript. At the end of the day, though, 1 point can be the difference between an acceptance and a rejection. I would do it. you'd have about 17.5 points if you retook A&P 1 with an A. 16.5 without retaking it. From what I've seen they usually start doing tie-breakers around 16-16.5 points. It's been really competitive lately though, so any extra points is helpful. Also, I wouldn't bank too much on a better TEAS score. An 85% is a great score and the diminishing returns on your study time to get up to, say, a 90% would only earn you another half point, but again, each little piece counts. I would say to just sit down and figure out how you can get the most points in the most efficient manner.

I completely agree - I ended up retaking one of my AP classes and got an A. So I gained two, but lost one so rly “just” gained one point but that one point can make a difference! I’ll now be applying w a 4.0 GPA and a 90 on TEAS so 19 points instead of 18ish so it’s worth it! Obv let‘s see how worth it it is if I can get in on the first try! ?  I’m gonna sit in on an info session soon - I think they’ll be starting that in January

Yeah I'm hoping to make one of the info sessions soon too! So many questions!

Curious to know if someone can help me out with how they do their application and scoring?

Scoring is as follows (For Spring 2021. This may change for the fall):

Completion of Micro, and A&P 1/2 = 1 Point

Military Service = 1 Point

A&P 1 Grade = 5 points maximum (A=5, B=4, C=3)

A&P 2 Grade = 5 points maximum (A=5, B=4, C=3)

TEAS Exam = 10% of total composite score (a 100% would be 10 points)

Total Possible points = 22

If a tie breaker is needed they base it off of your reading and science sections of your TEAS test.

I don't know if this fact is confirmed, but I heard that they weight your GPA and your numbered total score about 50/50.

Hope this helps.

As long as I ace Micro this Spring I'll be applying with 20 points and a 4.0! ?

Hi Megan!

I don't think that it's something they look at unfortunately :(
