Collin College Nursing Fall 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello! I know I am super early, but just trying to be proactive. I am planning on applying to the Fall 2021 ADN program at Collin. I currently have a B in A and P 1 and 2 and will be finishing Micro in the Spring semester. Does anyone know someone who has gotten in with B's in the science pre-reqs and a higher TEAS score? I'm taking the TEAS in 2 weeks and if I need to plan to take it again before submitting my final application in May. Any insight would be helpful ?

Yes, you get the points for A&P only and can get one more point for completing the prerequisites.
I am not sure if my points will get me in or not, so I am thinking to get another chance for TEAS test to get a higher grade.

Shoot. I wish I could get a point for the micro grade LOL.

And same here. I think I will be on the cusp of being accepted. I got an 85% on the TEAS the first time, and am not sure I will be able to score well enough to earn another point from retaking it. I do know they do tie breakers though for the reading and science section. Science was my lowest section at 70%, so I may retake the TEAS too. It can't hurt to try

I got 83.3, but my weakness was in reading.

I don't know how to improve my grade in this section.

For science you can watch Youtube videos there are many helpful videos and try to be aware of the basics in each body system.

I wish you all of the good luck.

I also want to apply for fall 2021. My GPA is 4, and I have all 'A" is in my prerequisite. My TEAS score is very low like 75 percent, Math 85%, Science 88%, Reading 67% and English language is 56 %. I know my chance very low. I'm in a dilemma whether I will apply or not. My English is very bad, so taking TEAS again is scary for me. Thinking about what to do. Assuming my point is 18.4, is there any chance with this low score.

Hey guys, 3rd semester Collin Nursing Student here (3rd semester starting Fall 2021, that is). Just wanted to answer some questions, if you have any. I am part of the infamous Fall 2020 reduced capacity class (they only took 60 of us out of 500 applicants) and some of the information I have been seeing regarding acceptable applications points is a tad misleading @rudyphox.

Our application points were different then the current scheme, so the tie breaker around 16 for acceptance is not entirely correct. They changed the application points for the TEAS after our cohort. Originally, it was 5 points for a tease >96, 4 points for 86-96, 3 points for 85-75. That is where the tie breaker at 16 points is coming from (our max points were 19).

To give you a snap shot into what was accepted for my class, our ENTIRE cohort has a 4.0 GPA (with no retakes), the vast majority of us had micro complete, our average TEAS was an 87, and most of us already had a degree in other fields.

Our class low for acceptance, under your point system, was a 19 with 8 tie breaker points (4.0 student with micro NOT complete, that had an 80 on the TEAS, 8 tie breaker points, and a military point - he is a buddy of mine). Our class high was a 21.2 (me, HOORAY for military point). Our average score with your application points was approximately 19.7

I'm telling you this to show you JUST how important that ONE extra point is in you application. If you have only taken the TEAS once in the application cycle, take it again. You can select which one you send in. Take micro, retake a pre-req if you got a C....do all the things, seriously. Collin is an INSANELY competitive program, with an excellent staff, and great reputation with the hospitals in the area (I got hired at Baylor Heart in Plano because of my clinicals with Collin). Also, a large part of nursing school is pushing yourself. Never stop pushing for better scores, always seek to be better. Don't settle. Ever.

Thank you ! I didn’t believe the tie breaker was 16 so this makes much more sense that it would be around 19.  I will be applying with a 3.7 GPA (2 A’s in the A&P’S and a B in micro) I retook A&P1 because I got a C the first time so a point deducted.  I also got a 91 on the TEAS. So I’ll be applying with a 3.7 GPA and with 19.1 points.  I’m a bit nervous because I barely missed the A in micro and I won’t have a 4.0.  I also have a second degree and a CNA cert working as a tech at Dallas Children’s. I know none of that accounts for points but obviously putting that on my application.  I’m debating on retaking micro (IDK if that looks bad to retake ANOTHER CLASS) and waiting to apply for the Spring cohort instead. Or apply this term coming up and for the Spring if I don’t get in the first time.  Nursing schools are so competitive ! I’m gonna sit on their next info session because maybe I’ll get more of an idea how many they’re accepting this time around and if I ever have a chance, but YIKES.  Thank you for your feedback!

Apply to other schools if you don’t get into Collin. I knew After reading these forums getting into Collins program would be super hard. So I applied to NCTC and . I got into both! I choose WGU because it’s 2 1/2 years and it’s a bachelors program. In the long run I feel I’m not spending much more than doing a community school and then a bachelors bridge.  Plus WGU is online which works better for my family sin I’m a mom of 4.  I had a B inA&P 1, A in A&P 2, and a B in Micro. I made an 80.7 on my TEAS. I already have a bachelors degree as well. Just want you guys to look at other options.

Whoa. I didn't realize all that. Well. Guess I'll start worrying about my application now.. I thought I'd be an easy acceptance, but now I'm not so sure...

Thanks for all your comments, I will make another trial forTEAS hoping for a higher grade.

I need to know are point the only criteria for selection or the GPA also the qualifiers based on it because I have A and Bs in prerequisites?

Micro is a complete/not complete point. The grade for that class does not matter (which I think is DUMB).

I agree! I meant more so it counts for GPA though and the reason I don’t have a 4.0 so I’m anxious haha

With 19.1 points I think you will be competitive depending on what your tie breaker points are. Also, keep in mind, my cohort was unusually competitive and had a reduced capacity for acceptance. It wouldn't shock me if your cutoff is around an 18.8 or so. I wouldn't waste my time (or money) retaking micro. I would focus on getting Stats, Chem, Nutrition, and being Texas Core complete instead.

With a 4.0 and a 90 on the TEAS you will be fine. That is par for the course for most accepted students. Things start getting iffy when you throw a B in there or a low 80 TEAS.
